Fastest Mini Cooper JCW Revealed By AC Schnitzer Posted: 16 Jun 2011 10:30 PM PDT If you've been looking for something even more powerful and quicker than the JCW version of the Mini Cooper, look no further as the guys over at AC Schnitzer have come up with this "Eagle" version. To demonstrate how fast the car really is, they took it to the famous Hockenheim circuit for some comparison testing. It managed to do a lap in 1:13.341 while the Ferrari California did it in 1:13.5, along with the BMW M3 in 1:14.3 and the Porsche 911 Turbo in 1:14.6. This "Eagle" model has the same engine as the JCW version, but AC Schnitzer tweaked it a little bit and it now produces 260 hp (191 kW) @ 5,000 rpm and 340 Nm of torque @ 2,950 rpm. The car can now do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 5.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h. They managed to squeeze more power out of that engine by installing a new ECU, modifying the intercooler and the turbo and using a stainless steel exhaust system that has a racing catalyst. In addition, the car got a sport clutch, a lightweight ion battery, a limited slip differential, anti-roll bars and a racing suspension. As far as the aerodynamic package is concerned, AC Schnitzer fitted this Mini with a new hood, a rear diffuser, boot lid, new doors and wings, along with a rear spoiler – all made out of carbon fiber to shave off a few pounds. The price tag for the fastest Mini Cooper JCW is 62,000 Euros. PS: These are the Hockenheim lap times: AC Schnitzer EAGLE : 1:13,3 min. Honda EV-neo – A Green Scooter Posted: 16 Jun 2011 10:00 PM PDT I have to say from the start that I'm not a big fan of scooters mostly because of that annoying sound that they make. However, the situation is completely different in this situation as the Honda EV-neo is an electric scooter that features a 72V lithium-ion battery that sends the available power to an electric motor that can generate 3.8 hp (3.8 PS / 2.8 kW) and 8 lb.-ft (11 Nm) of torque. With a curb weight of 243 lb (110 kg), it has a drive range of up to 21 miles (34 km) on a single charge. After you run out of juice, the battery can be recharged in 3.5 hours when using a standard charger that has been installed underneath the seat or in only 30 minutes by using a rapid charger. The Honda EV-neo features 12-inch tubeless tires, a digital instrument cluster, along with a clever Combi Braking system that can engage both front and rear brakes when you press the left braking lever. Click here to view the embedded video. You already can get one if you live in Japan and Honda said that they'll launch a test program in Barcelona. We can only tell you that they will give 18 scooters to the city council in order to obtain the necessary feedback regarding user behavior and performance. No word about selling them to guys like you and me… Source: Honda via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 16 Jun 2011 09:30 PM PDT We have some rather surprising news coming from Nissan as they've recently announced that the hybrid version of the Altima has been discontinued. We say surprising because the prices for fuel are approaching all-time highs so at least theoretically, customers are turning their heads towards these fuel efficient cars. The Nissan Altima Hybrid was introduced in the United States in 2007 and the Japanese automaker has managed to sell 35,000 units which is not too bad if we take into consideration the fact that it was only available in seven states. Another reason why the car was axed is because it used the hybrid technology developed by Toyota which in the near future will be replaced by Nissan's own hybrid system, the one that we already saw on the Infiniti M35h. 2012 BMW M5 Goes Official, Finally! Posted: 16 Jun 2011 09:00 PM PDT After the last few months in which we've discussed about the upcoming M5, sharing spy shots, talking about the concept version, debating rumors and speculations, the German automaker has finally unveiled the production model of the highly anticipated M5. Probably the first thing that you will notice is the fact that it looks almost identical to the concept. In the front, we see that they've kept the same aggressive front look, along with the aerodynamic side skirts and a small diffuser out in the back. The grill now features black slates, while the front fenders got vents. Other goodies include the adaptive xenon lights, those impressive 19-inch alloy rims and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. Inside the cabin, the 2012 BMW M5 features Merino sport seats wrapped around in leather, an "M" steering wheel that has two buttons which you can use in order to choose from the pre-selected transmission, engine and suspension setups. Other modifications include the updated instrument cluster, a generous 10.2-inch iDrive display, aluminum trace trim and an Anthracite headliner. The most interesting aspect of the new model is its engine, a V8 4.4-liter twin-turbo unit that features a cross-bank exhaust manifold, generating 552 hp (560 PS / 412 kW) and 502 lb.-ft (680 Nm) of torque. This power unit is mated to a 7-speed M double clutch gearbox, allowing the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds, 0-124 mph in 13 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) or 190 mph (305 km/h) if you opt for the M Driver's Package. A great thing about this powerful engine is the fact that it doesn't need a lot of fuel, managing to do 23.8 mpg (9.9 liters / 100 km) while CO2 emissions stand at 232 g/km. The 2012 BMW M5 has been fitted with electronically controlled dampers, along with high performance compound brakes, Servotronic steering system and an Active M Differential. BMW hasn't shared any information regarding the price tag of the new M5, but we will have more information on June 23rd when the M Festival starts. Source: BMW via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 16 Jun 2011 07:48 AM PDT OnStar has come with a new system to keep you in touch with the emergency services: the OStar FMV, a rearview mirror, equipped with all OnStar options. For $300 plus $100 to have it installed, this mirror helps the driver in case of emergencies, accidents or security problems, navigation or breakdowns. This is how it works: if any of the situations named above happens, OnStar is immediately notified and sends some emergency services to your location. It's a kind of assistance that OnStar offers you while driving, and in case your car breaks down, you can ask for a breakdown recovery service to your location by only pressing a button. In addition to those, the mirror is also a trap for thieves: a tracking device is installed on the system and constantly provides information so that police to find the vehicle. So, what do you think about this device? [Source: Gizmosforgeeks] Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Tips & tricks for insuring your performance car Posted: 16 Jun 2011 06:22 AM PDT
Don’t feel disappointed – we’re talking about repairs and insurance. However, as it’s on your insurance policy, that means the insurer will issue you with a higher premium, as opposed to one for a car where the parts are in abundance and any mechanic can repair the vehicle should it require repairs. But this can be helpfully mitigated by ensuring that if you can pay for small repairs yourself, do so – it means that you’ll pay less in the long term, and in fact build up a considerable no-claims bonus as you’re not claiming for compensation from your insurer for small accidents or required repairs. Performance cars are also higher-risk vehicles, due to how powerful and delicate they are. They’re not driven like Ice Cream Trucks, and this is because no one buys a Porsche to drive it at ten miles an hour! However, if you’re unsure of getting behind the wheel of such a powerful car, then perhaps take a few training courses so you’re more prepared for the jump from an everyday conveyance to something a little more powerful. Lastly, don’t forget to look for the best possible deals, and try and Post published on Rpmgo.com |
