Electric GreenGT LMPH2 Set To Race At 2012 LeMans Posted: 16 Jun 2011 12:00 AM PDT In the experimental race class of next year's Le Mans endurance race we'll get to see this new GreenGT LMPH2 racer. In this video we catch a glimpse of the car doing a demonstration lap at the famous circuit, being driven by Christian Pescatori, who is part of the team responsible for the development of the racer. The announcement was made last week at a press conference by the Automobile Club de L'Ouest (ACO), who is the association in charge of the Le Mans race. Click here to view the embedded video. GreenGT, the Swiss-based team, will continue with the development of the car until the 2012 edition of the LeMans where we shall see this hydrogen-fueled car racing among other competitors in the experimental class. The car will hold 12 kg of hydrogen in 700 bar high-pressure tanks and the power output is expected to be around 402 hp (408 PS / 300 kW). Source: GreenGT via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Renault Megane RS-based RENM RS 250 Black Edition Revealed Posted: 15 Jun 2011 11:30 PM PDT RENM Performance is an Australian tuner and their latest project is based on the hot Renault Megane RS. They managed to increase the output of the engine to 306 hp (310 PS / 228 kW) and 430 Nm of torque by remapping the ECU, installing a new turbo intercooler, a stainless steel performance exhaust system and a sport air filter. The car rides on 19-inch Titanium Gray race-light wheels, while the ride height has been lowered by 35 mm thanks to the dampening coilover suspension. You probably know that the German automaker Audi has been dominating the Le Mans for the last few years with the R-Series TDI race cars, but Peugeot has also done a pretty good job, winning the 2009 Le Mans. Click here to view the embedded video. The winning R18 TDI was the number 2 car and it was the only one who managed to cross the finish line as the number 1 and number 3 cars crashed. The good news is that drivers Allan McNish and Mike Rockenfeller didn't suffer any injuries. Source: Audi via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Arrinera Venocara Goes Official Posted: 15 Jun 2011 10:30 PM PDT If you've been yearning for a Polish supercar, you'll have to wait until the end of next year when the Arrinera Venocara will enter production. The car rides on a tubular steel chassis and benefits from a carbon Kevlar body, 19/20-inch alloy rims, bi-xenon headlights and LED taillights. Inside, there is premium leather upholstery, aluminum accents, carbon fiber trim and a thermal-imaging system. The Arrinera Venocara is powered by a V8 6.2-liter supercharged engine borrowed from the Corvette ZR1 and it has been installed in the middle. Cars Recommended to Super-active Women Posted: 15 Jun 2011 07:43 AM PDT Our colleagues from Carwoo have made a short list of best cars for women who have an active life: nowadays, many women are caught somewhere between their way to work and shopping in the market for a family dinner, and even gym. If we add to all this the dog that wants to go out, the driving around the block for relaxing after a hard day, laundry or bills, the situation becomes even more complicated, and none of those could be possible unless a great car comes to the rescue. So, here are the cars recommended for super-active women: Volvo S60 – named Woman's World Family Car of the Year - it is safe, comfortable, excellent as a family car. Acura TSX – according to Forbes, it's one of the least expensive cars to drive - practical, with cheap maintenance costs and an MPG of 31 hwy. Mazda Miata – according to Forbes, it's one of the least expensive cars to drive - it's Motor Trend's best sports car for 25K. Which one is your favorite? [study] Your Car Could Sense You If You’re Driving Drunk Posted: 15 Jun 2011 06:40 AM PDT Despite all the efforts, drunken persons still get into their cars and drive who knows where, putting their and others' lives in danger. Apparently, researchers consider that, with the right software, the current technology used on cars can now have the capability to sense whether the driver is drunk or not when he is behind the wheel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had the idea of using a software based on sensors of stability control and lane departure warnings, already installed on some vehicles. These systems could give information about the driver's situation by analyzing the way he drives. In order to prove their idea, they used a University of Iowa driving simulator and 108 volunteers with up to 0.10% alcohol in their blood. They analyzed the results using three algorithms, which showed them that about 80% of drivers with alcohol above the legal maximum of 0.08% were identified by this software in only 8 minutes of driving. Some believe that 8 minutes is too much, and that a drunken driver can do many damages during this time. However, the technology still has gasps. The researchers have used moderate drunk subject, which could actually change the results for alcoholics. Not to mention the situation of fatigue or drug use that could alert the software in the same way as drunk drivers. In addition to this, some of the current sensors from a car, used to identify a drunk driver, don't work well in all weather conditions and visibility. In our opinion, the idea of having a car able to notice that the driver is drunk is quite great. But the actual solution from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration still needs some improvements. What is your opinion? What else should be taken into account?
