Posted: 15 Jun 2011 12:00 AM PDT The Spanish automaker Seat has revealed at this year's edition of the Worthersee GTI meet a new racer based on the Ibiza Cupra model, which will be homologated into a new race series. Dubbed Ibiza SC Trophy, the car will participate in an all-new single-brand championship that will start in 2012 in Spain and Italy. Under the hood it features a 1.4 TSI engine that generates 178 hp (180 PS / 132 kW), just like the Cupra model and is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. Although there is no extra power available, the car has been put on a diet as it now weighs only 2,330 lbs (1,063 kg) and has been fitted with 17-inch race wheels. Other modifications include a modified oil sump that can combat the high lateral forces that it must endure during races. The car is now closer to the ground by 40 mm and the wheelbase is longer by 13 mm. The track has also been widened by 170 mm (front) and 29 mm (back). Posted: 14 Jun 2011 11:30 PM PDT Zenvo teamed up with Red Sea Distribution, who is the only North American distributor of Zenvo, for creating this limited edition ST-1 model that will only be available in the United States. Wearing the 50S designation, the supercar rides on very light magnesium wheels and it features monogrammed seats. As you might have expected from a limited series model, each car will come with an individually numbered plaque. In addition, buyers will also get an Aspen watch that has a retail price tag of $49,000. The car has been fitted with a bespoke V8 7.0-liter engine that generates 1250 hp (1267 PS / 932 kW) and an incredible torque of 1106 lb.-ft (1500 Nm), which is 146 hp (148 PS / 109 kW) and 52 lb.-ft (70 Nm) more in comparison to the standard variant of the car. This huge engine is mated to a 7-speed gearbox, allowing the 50S to do the 0-62 mph spring in only 3.0 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 233 mph (375 km/h). They are going to make only three units: one in Mediterranean Blue, Crystal White and Intense Red. The base price for the 50S starts from $1,800,000. Renault & Samsung Reveal SM7 Model Posted: 14 Jun 2011 11:00 PM PDT It was only a few months ago when Renault and Samsung revealed the concept version of the SM7 at the Seoul Motor Show and now we have official photos of the production model which might make it in European dealerships as well. We notice that this production model is a little bit more toned-down than the concept, but it still looks very attractive, unlike most of Renault's cars in the current lineup. The new SM7 is built on the D platform that was also used for the Nissan Maxima (aka Nissan Teana in Japan). Under the hood, expect to see a V6 2.5-liter that produces 182 hp (185 PS / 136 kW) and 171 lb.-ft (232 Nm) of torque, along with a more powerful V6 3.5-liter unit that cranks out 251 hp (254 PS / 187 kW) and 247 lb.-ft (335 Nm) of torque. If it will arrive in Europe, the car will most likely become the flagship model of the French automaker and Renault will probably resurrect the Safrane name. VW Beetle R, Heading To Frankfurt Motor Show? Posted: 14 Jun 2011 09:30 PM PDT If we were to believe our esteemed colleagues from Car & Driver, the German automaker Volkswagen will unveil the hot version of the recently introduced Beetle at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show which will open its doors in September. Nothing is certain at the moment but according to some sources that talked to the magazine, the Beetle R will be powered by a 4-cylinder, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that will develop about 237 hp (240 PS / 177 kW). If these figures turn out to be true, the car will be less powerful than the Golf R, which offers 266 hp (270 PS / 199 kW), but more powerful than the Beetle Turbo who has 197 hp (200 PS / 147 kW). Aside from the new engine, the VW Beetle R will come with a FWD configuration, a sport-tuned suspension and a more aggressive bodykit. VW is also thinking about a convertible generation of the new Beetle, but they're waiting to see is the demand is high enough in order to give it the green light for production. Button Snatches Victory In Canadian GP Posted: 14 Jun 2011 09:14 PM PDT The former world champion Jenson Button managed to win "the best race of my life" last Sunday. He managed to do it in great style, starting from the back of the grid and passing S. Vettel on the very last lap of the race. The race was red-flagged for two hours due to heavy raining and we saw the deployment of five safety cars. Button's victory is very impressive if we take into consideration the fact that he had a clash with Hamilton who in the eight lap of the race had to abandon the race. Button, after visiting the pit stops for six times, managed to win the Canadian GP in great style. He was under investigation following the crashes with Alonso and Hamilton, but he didn't get any penalty. I am glad to see that Formula 1 is once again exciting, after a couple of years of a rather boring competition. Here are the full results of the 2011 Canadian GP: Pos. Posted: 14 Jun 2011 12:19 PM PDT We've been talking for quite some time about the Honda CR-Z Mugen and now we have a video with the car which will get its official debut in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This one-off prototype is a joint project by the Japanese automaker and Euro Mugen to come up with a performance-oriented hybrid car. As a reminder, the CR-Z Mugen is powered by a 1.5-liter engine along with an IMA hybrid system, capable of providing a total output of approximately 197 hp (200 PS / 147 kW) and 181 lb.-ft (245 Nm) of torque. It needs about 6.6 seconds to do the 0-62 mph sprint. Click here to view the embedded video. We'll have more information about the car on July 1st when the Goodwood Festival of Speed starts in the United Kingdom. Source: Honda via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Bikers Get Help from Blaze to Avoid Getting Hit on the Road Posted: 14 Jun 2011 08:34 AM PDT Emily Brooke, a British Design student from the University of Brighton, has come with the idea of creating a system to notice drivers about bikers' presence on the road. It is called Blaze and it's actually a handlebar mounted laser which projects the image of a bicycle a couple of meters ahead of the cyclist, noticing the others that it comes from behind. In this way, the other drivers or motorists are warned about the approaching of the biker and can avoid any possible collisions. Apparently, according to Emily Brooke, 80% of the accidents involving cycles are caused by the fact they are not seen by the car drivers when they change the driving direction of their cars. In the best case, her idea will increase bicyclists' safety, by the fact that the others drivers will see the laser projected and will be more cautious when making a turn. Unfortunately, the projection is on the ground, and if drivers don't pay attention to the ground, the idea is quite useless. In addition to this, it does not feature an option for situations when the rider is behind another vehicle. For the moment, the laser is only a concept and can still be improved. In our opinion, the idea is not bad, even if it has to find some additional solutions to its gaps. What is your opinion about this device? [Source: Bicycledesign] Post published on Rpmgo.com |
