GM Presents 2012 Chevrolet Impala Police Car Posted: 09 Jun 2011 05:00 AM PDT General Motors has decided to reveal the police version of its 2012MY Chevrolet Impala before detailing all the facts about the retail model, which will go on sale this June. Probably the most important change over the older model would have to be the direct-injection V6 3.6-liter engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This power unit is capable of producing 302 hp and enables the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 6.6 seconds. The 2011 Impala police car has a V6 3.9-liter engine that produces 230 hp, linked to a 4-speed gearbox. Although the new engine is more powerful, it manages to provide better fuel efficiency as General Motors said that it will return 17 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which is 3 mpg than before and 28% better than the Ford Crown Victoria which will soon be retired. The 2012MY Chevrolet Impala also benefits from GM's electronic stability control, dubbed StabilTrak. They've also fitted the car with a better braking system, allowing the Impala to stop from 60 mph in 132 feet. In addition, the suspension and steering have been tuned in order to improve handling and reduce body roll. We'll have more information about the retail version in the following weeks. Stay tuned. New F1 Engine Rules Might Be Postponed Posted: 09 Jun 2011 03:37 AM PDT
Even the council that is the most influential body part of the FIA, which governs Formula 1, said that his implementation date should be "redefined". In order to reduce fuel consumption by 35%, it means that the cars will have to be equipped with de-tuned and downsized engine and they will also have to meet the aerodynamic regulations. As far as the engines are concerned, we now have normally aspirated V8 2.4-liter units, but the future ones will most likely be 4-cylinder, turbocharged 1.6-liter power plants. If you've watched a race on TV, you probably noticed that the rev counter goes all the way up to 20,000 rpms. Well, no more, as the new regulations will limit the engine to 12,000 rpms. As much as I am a fan of the green movement, there is no such place (at least for now) in Formula 1, which is considered the pinnacle of the entire motorsport industry. Epic Second-Hand Car Ad for Porsche Posted: 09 Jun 2011 02:37 AM PDT We won’t be surprised if we’ll find you that this guy has a job in publicity. If he doesn’t, he should. He is trying to sell his Porsche 911 Supersport through an amateur car ad which lookes better than a proffesional one. Easy to follow plot, great editing, inspired frames and most of all a beatiful girl. You can’t have a proper car commercial without a beautiful girl, right? Take a look at the video, you might consider buying the Porsche 911 Targa Supersport if the price won’t go through the roof after this stunt. Click here to view the embedded video. Mercedes-Benz Switched Gifts Short Film Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:51 AM PDT The 5:30 minutes clip was shot in order to promote the new Mercedes-Benz M Class model. 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Goes Official Posted: 09 Jun 2011 12:00 AM PDT After several batches of spy shots, we finally get to see the new generation of the M-Class in all its German crossover glory. We'll have live shots of the car in September when Mercedes will bring it to the Frankfurt Motor Show for an official unveiling. The new M-Class features a more prominent front grille, wraparound taillights, sculpted sides and a generous selection of 17- to 21-inch alloy rims. Inside the cabin, noticeable upgrades can be noticed as the interior sports materials of higher quality while the dashboard looks a little bit like the one on the S-Class, featuring a wide swatch of wood trim. The center console is now considerably wider and there are new aluminum accents, along with an optional panoramic roof and an updated COMAND system. When it will hit the dealerships, MB will offer the M-Class with three engines. The ML 250 will be the cheapest model, featuring a 4-cylinder, 2.1-liter Bluetec engine that generates 201 hp (204 PS / 150 kW) and 369 lb.-ft (500 Nm) of torque. The mid-range model is the ML 350 Bluetec, featuring a V6 3.0-liter diesel power unit that produces 254 hp (258 PS / 190 kW) and 457 lb.-ft (619 Nm) of torque, which should allow for a sprint from 0 to 62 mph in approximately 7.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 139 mph (224 km/h). The most powerful model which will be available upon launch is going to be the ML 350 BlueEfficiency, packing a V6 3.5-liter engine that delivers 302 hp (306 PS / 225 kW) and 273 lb.-ft (370 Nm) of torque. With this engine, the M-Class will be able to hit a top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h). All of these engines are going to be mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox and an AWD system. In addition, all three models will sport a selective damping suspension. Optional features to choose from include the self-leveling Airmatic air suspension, along with the Active Curve System. No word about an AMG version, but we'll definitely see one in the next couple of years, if not sooner. Source: Mercedes-Benz via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
2012 VW Beetle Gets $18,995 Price Tag In US Posted: 08 Jun 2011 11:30 PM PDT The new generation of the Volkswagen Beetle was launched a couple of weeks ago, featuring a more masculine look and pretty decent engines. The German automaker has revealed a couple of days ago the price list for the U.S. model, which costs from $18,995. For this money you'll get the 4-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine that produces 170 hp (172 PS / 127 kW) and 177 lb.-ft (240 Nm) of torque. This entry-level model rides on 17-inch alloy rims and features an 8-speaker audio system and a steering wheel wrapped in leather. Hyundai Elantra Coupe In The Works Posted: 08 Jun 2011 11:00 PM PDT If we were to believe our colleagues from Inside Line, the Korean automaker Hyundai will bring the coupe version of its beautiful Elantra model to this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Designed to take down the Honda Civic, the coupe version will carry the same engines as its sedan sibling. The 2011MY is powered by a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter engine that produces 148 hp and has a peak torque of 131 lb.-ft. It seems that Hyundai is also developing the hot R-spec version of the Elantra and we should see it sometime in 2012. Under the hood it will have the same engine as the one which we shall see in the sporty version of the Veloster, packing 208 ponies. This engine will most likely be mated to a 6-speed DCT gearbox. Aside from borrowing the same engines, the coupe version of the Elantra will feature just about the same equipment as its 4-door brother, which comes in two flavors: GLS and Limited. PS: The photo is not official, it's a rendering. Looks great though… Source: Inside Line | Photo: Edmunds Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Rolls-Royce Rethinks EV Production Posted: 08 Jun 2011 10:30 PM PDT Remember the Rolls-Royce 102EX concept? RR unveiled it earlier this year during the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show where they said that it might go into production sooner or later. However, the initial feedback was rather weak and most likely we won't be seeing an EV from RR anytime soon. Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, the company's CEO, said that many of the potential buyers live on the outskirts of big cities and the car's estimated driving range of up to 124 miles (200 km) would not be enough for the daily commute. As a reminder, the 102EX packs a 71 kWh lithium-ion battery that is responsible for sending the power to two electric motors that generate a combined output figure of 389 hp (394 PS / 290 kW) and a remarkable peak torque of 590 lb.-ft (800 Nm). With this hardware configuration, the car is able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in "under 8 seconds", on its way to an electronically limited to speed of 99 mph (160 km/h). Mazda BT-50 Freestyle Announced Posted: 08 Jun 2011 10:00 PM PDT There aren't many stylish pickup trucks out there and is nice to see from time to time that a well-known manufacturer rolls out a model like this. The Japanese automaker Mazda has revealed its upcoming BT-50 Freestyle pickup truck which will make its official debut at the Australian Motor Show. Basically, it is an extended-cab variant, featuring cool rear-hinged doors that provide great access to the cabin. However, those back seats don't look very comfortable, but I'm not complaining. Mazda says that the seatback height has increased by 128 mm and the cushions have been lengthened by 50 mm. The truck's bed can carry up to 51.3 cu ft (1,453 liters) of cargo, which is 9.4 cu ft (266 liters) more than the current model. No word about the price list, but we do know that it will hit the dealerships this summer. Source: Mazda via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Spy Shots – VW Cross Passat Variant Posted: 08 Jun 2011 09:30 PM PDT It seems that the German automaker Volkswagen is working on a new version of the Passat, dubbed Cross, which looks like the wagon version but it seems to be sitting on a raised chassis. In addition, from these spy shots (courtesy of WCF) we notice that matte black paneling around the bottom, beneath the camouflage. Also, the wheel arches seem to be widened. The car will benefit from VW"s traditional 4Motion all-wheel drive system and some of the engines which are going to be available include the 2.0 TFSI gasoline unit that generates 207 hp (211 PS / 155 kW) and the 2.0-liter TDI engine that produces 167 hp (170 PS / 125 kW).
