Fisker Karma Production Finally Kicks Off In Finland Posted: 02 Jun 2011 12:00 AM PDT After years of delays and financing problems, Fisker Automotive has finally announced that the Karma's production has begun in Finland. They said that the company is focusing at the moment to deliver cars to their dealers and to a limited number of lucky journalists for quick test drives. It seems that Henrik Fisker, the owner of the company has a soft spot for royalty if we take into consideration that a few of the non-Fisker workers who had the possibility to drive the Karma belong to two distinct European royal families. Before the last Saturday's Monaco GP qualifying session, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco drove the luxury sports sedan for two laps and on the passenger seat was the founder of the company himself. Fisker Automotive promised to reach full production capacity in the second part of this year and hopes to fulfill every order that they got so far for those that put down a deposit in the couple of years. If you are interested in getting the Fisker Karma, prepare to pay at least $95,900 as this is the starting price for the hybrid. More information should become available pretty soon so stay tuned. Subaru Targeting 100% Sales Increase In UK Posted: 01 Jun 2011 11:30 PM PDT With the launch of the new XV crossover, Subaru wants to become the top player in a segment where back in the days they dominated. The Japanese automaker is going to introduce this model, along with the highly-anticipated FT-86 Coupe in its attempt to double sales in the United Kingdom. The crossover will have to face up some serious competition coming from the Nissan Qashqai and the Ford Kuga in this crossover/SUV segment, not only in the UK, but also in the rest of the world. Subaru hopes that with the launch of the FT-86 Coupe (co-developed with Toyota), they will increase the brand's appeal taking into consideration that it is going to be the first RWD model of the Japanese automaker. As far as the XV is concerned, it will be available with a choice of 1.6- and 2-liter gasoline engines, along with a 2.0-liter diesel version. Subaru is going to sell it with only an AWD configuration and they hope to deliver 2,000 units annually in UK, while for the FT-86 Coupe, the company estimates 500 units per year. VW Golf Editions Arriving To Worthersee Posted: 01 Jun 2011 11:00 PM PDT For this year's Worthersee show, the German automaker Volkswagen will bring three special editions of its popular Golf model. The first one is the GTI 16S, which is a racer based on the 1977 GTI and has been developed by KWL Motorsport. Instead of the regular 2.0-liter TFSI engine, the car is powered by a 1.6-liter plant that produces 211 hp (215 PS / 158 kW), linked to a 5-speed racing transmission developed by VW Motorsport. It also has a Billstein chassis, along with an 80-liter fuel tank. The car will take part at the 24-hours race at Nurburgring where it will be a Group 4 competitor. The second model that VW will bring to the show is the Golf24 endurance racer, but the model which will celebrate 35th years since the original Golf was introduced is going to be the Golf GTI Edition 35, a car that you will be able to buy. The standard VW Golf GTI packs 207 hp (210 PS / 155 kW), but this special edition churns out 232 hp (235 PS / 173 kW) from its 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine. 2012 Nissan GT-R To Get More Power And SpecR Version Posted: 01 Jun 2011 10:30 PM PDT Production of the Nissan GT-R will soon end as the 2012 JDM model will be the last one. However, the Japanese automaker will continue to roll out new iterations of the model. As far as the 2012 R35 GT-R model is concerned, it will pack more power in comparison to the previous model. Expect to see a 30 hp (30 PS / 22 kW) increase, which rounds up the figure to 560 hp (568 PS / 418 kW), in comparison to the previous 530 hp (537 PS / 395 kW) and 488 lb.-ft (661 Nm) of torque. In addition, Nissan will also launch a SpecR version of the GT-R which aside from this extra power it will feature a gold engine cover and the curb weight will be lowered by 66-88 lbs (30-40 kg). Due to the tsunami disaster that hit Japan in March, the testing of the model has been delayed, but 7tune.com says that testing on the Nurburgring will occur this fall 2011. Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro Unleashed Posted: 01 Jun 2011 10:00 PM PDT At the moment, the closest thing to an Audi RS1 is this Clubsport Quattro, which is being exhibited this week at the 2011 Worthersee Tour. The car is motivated by a 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter TFSI engine that has been heavily modified in order to produce 496 hp (503 PS / 370 kW) and a peak torque of 486 lb.-ft (660 Nm). Thanks to its low curb weight of only 3,064 lb (1,390 kg), this one-off Audi A1 can do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 3.7 seconds and it needs a mere 10.9 seconds to hit 200 km/h from start. The top speed has been electronically limited by Audi to "only" 155 mph (250 km/h). That powerful engine is linked to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends the power to all the wheels thanks to the Quattro permanent AWD system. This technology has been borrowed from the sexy TT RS model but Audi's engineers had to tweak it a little bit. From the outside of this Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro, we notice that full aerodynamic bodykit that broadens the car in comparison to the standard model by 2.36 inches (60 mm). The car sits on 19-inch alloy rims that have been covered with 255/30/R19 low-profile rubber. Its coilover suspension features rebound damping and adjustable compression. As far as the interior cabin is concerned, this special A1 features a leather finish for the seats and the center console. Instead of the regular rear bench, Audi's engineers have fitted the car with a body-stiffening crossbar and you can place your racing helmets in specially-designed storage spaces. Volkswagen Tiguan Might Be Built In North America Posted: 01 Jun 2011 09:30 PM PDT We already know that the German automaker Volkswagen has plans of expanding its production in North America beyond the current Beetle, Jetta and Passat models. VW recently christened its new Chattanooga plant where they are making the NMS, which is in fact the North American version of the Passat, but a little bit bigger and more affordable. The company wants to hit 1 million sold units in North America by 2018 with its Audi and VW models. In order to accomplish this ambitious target, the automaker has to increase its production there and if we were to believe our colleagues from Wirtschafts Woche, a German business magazine, the company is thinking about making the Tiguan at the aformentioned Chattanooga factory or in Mexico, where the Beetle and the Jetta are assembled. If this will turn out to be true, expect to see the first units in 2013. The Volkswagen Tiguan was introduced in 2007 and since then, the German automaker has managed to sell more than 700,000 units across the world. In February 2010 it received a facelift and the next generation model will most likely by launched sometime in 2013. Source: Wirtschafts Woche via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
VATH Mercedes SLS AMG Revealed Posted: 01 Jun 2011 09:00 PM PDT If you thought that the Mercedes SLS AMG can't get more power from its 6.3-liter engine, you're wrong. The German tuner VATH has decided to roll out their own version of the sexy AMG version of the SLS, managing to increase the power to 607 hp (615 PS / 452 kW) and 501 lb.-ft (680 Nm), up from the standard 563 hp (571 PS / 420 kW). Thanks to these upgrades, the car can do the 0-60 mph sprint in only 3.3 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). To get that extra oomph from the engine, VATH installed a high-performance exhaust that features a pneumatic valve system, allowing the driver of the SLS AMG to control the exhaust sound himself from the cockpit. The sexy coupe now sits on VATH's 9.5Jx20-inch (front) and 11.5Jx20-inch (back) wheels, covered by 265/30ZR20 and 315/25ZR20 tires. In comparison to the standard version, this VATH-tuned SLS AMG has been lowered by 25 mm. Design-wise, not much has changed and this can only be a good thing as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is one of the most beautiful cars in the world. The German engineers installed a new front lip spoiler that offers more downforce on the car's front axle, along with a boot lid spoiler and side skirts. Inside the cabin, we find a sport steering wheel wrapped around in leather, a new speedometer that reads up to 400 km/h, black floor mats with the tuner's logo and door trimming in leather. For the entire package, SLS AMG owners have to pay 32,670 Euros. Source: VATH via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
BMW 328 Hommage has two built-in iPhones Posted: 01 Jun 2011 12:39 PM PDT Celebrating 75 years from the birth of BMW 328 the Hommage prototype has one of the most stunning car designs in history. If in the 1930s the 328 was a dreamy sports car for every driver, 75 years later BMW doesn’t stop to impress. We think it is fair to say that this is one of the most beatiful custom made cars all-time. This beauty features some unique details including exterior leather side-straps, no car doors, carbon fibre re-enforced plastic, retro round headlights and last but not least, iPhone gauges. The two built-in iPhones display lap times, GPS maps and other regular informations about the car’s status and are meant to replace the usual board gauges. Click here to view the embedded video. Posted: 01 Jun 2011 11:58 AM PDT On the 29th of May 2011 the distance of the longest car jump in history was increased by the yellow driver of Hot Wheels, Tanner Foust. Before the 500 miles race in Indianapolis the 40.000 people audience witnessed a 332 feet long car jump. The vehicle dropped 10 stories and had a slight sideways landing but the driver managed to get back on track and finish the stunt safe and sound. It may look easy, but it surely wasn’t. Foust said: “When I got up into the truck and on the top of the slope i said to myself “there’s no way this is just 100 feet high, it feels like 900 feet” because when I first saw it from down on the ground it didn’t look so high. I’ve been training for this jump for the last three months.” Click here to view the embedded video. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
