VW Passat CC Tuned By KBR Motorsport Posted: 03 Jun 2011 12:00 AM PDT
One of the cars that should get more attention from tuning specialists is the sleek Volkswagen Passat CC. Luckily, the guys over at KBR Motorsport got their hands on this car and in these photos you can see the result. They've created a performance and styling package for the German sports saloon that looks pretty good. From the outside, we notice the bespoke foil-wrap that has a "dull olive gray" finish, those 20-inch alloy rims which have been covered by 225/30 ZR20 rubbers, along with a brand new exhaust pipe. The car looks even more aggressive now thanks to the lowered KW Variant 3 coilover suspension. From the press release we've learned that the engineers from KBR Motorsport have managed to increase the power output to 260 hp, but they didn't mention which engine they used, most likely it was a 2.0-liter TFSI unit that in its standard configuration delivers 210 hp. You can have this entire package for $15,800 (11,000 Euros). Source: KBR Motorsport via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Hyundai i40 Tourer Gets £18,395 Price Tag In UK Posted: 02 Jun 2011 11:30 PM PDT I'm not a big fan of family estate cars, but this all-new Hyundai i40 Tourer looks great. The Korean automaker announced earlier this week that its new model will have a base price of 18,395 pounds in the United Kingdom, making it a little bit more affordable in comparison to its main rivals: Ford Mondeo Estate (18,955 pounds) and the Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer (19,350 pounds). The car will hit the dealerships this September and later on Hyundai will bring its sedan sibling. It will be offered in three trim levels: Active, Style and Premium and customers will be able to choose from one of the following engines: a 1.6-liter gasoline unit (we don't know how much power it generates), a 1.7-liter diesel that produces either 115 hp or 136 hp, along with the 2.0-liter gasoline engine that cranks out 177 hp. All of these engines will come as standard with the company's start & stop technology. Some of the standard goodies that you will get with the i40 Tourer include the 16-inch alloy rims, leather steering wheel that has audio controls, Bluetooth support, electric parking brake, front & rear electric windows, along with electric heated door mirrors that have LED indicators. If you opt for the Style trim, you'll also get cruise control, touchscreen sat-nav system (with rear view camera), dual zone climate control and front & rear parking sensors. The top-spec Premium trim level adds keyless entry, leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, heated leather steering wheel, ventilated front seats, Lane Departure Warning system with Smart Parking Assist, along with the proprietary supervision instrument cluster that sports an LCD color display. Audi S5 Cabriolet By STaSIS Engineering Posted: 02 Jun 2011 11:00 PM PDT The guys over at STaSIS Engineering, a North American tuning company, though that the Audi S5 Cabriolet isn't powerful enough so they've decide to create this upgrade program. They took the V6 supercharged 3.0-liter engine and increased its power by 77 hp, managing to squeeze 410 hp from that power plant. The torque is also up from the standard 344 lb.-ft (465 Nm) to 370 lb.-ft (500 Nm). This extra oomph was possible by remapping the ECU and installing a new high-performance exhaust system. As you would expect, the car is a little bit quicker now, managing to do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 4.3 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds faster than the standard S5 Cabriolet. To lower the braking distance, they installed Alcon 6-piston monobloc calipers, along with high performance pads, braided stainless steel brake lines and 370 mm 2-piece front discs. STaSIS Engineering also tweaked the handling of the S5 Cabriolet by installing Ohlins SL dampers that have two settings, along with an adjustable ride height. Other goodies include those exquisite 20-inch aluminum rims that are wrapped around in high-performance low-rolling rubbers. Source: STaSIS Engineering via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Worthersee 2011 – VW Golf R Cabriolet Concept Posted: 02 Jun 2011 10:30 PM PDT Another interesting concept revealed this year at the Worthersee show is the Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet, which is the fastest open-top Golf ever created. It was conceived in order to demonstrate the "inexhaustible potential of the Golf" and comes with a redesigned front fascia that is considerably more aggressive in comparison to the one on the regular R model. The German engineers fitted the car with a center-mounted dual exhaust system and new aerodynamic side skirts, along with the high performance braking system, a sport-tuned suspension and those cool 19-inch rims you see in the pictures. We don't have any photos of the interior but the company says that there are sport seats wrapped around in Nappa leather, carbon fiber accents and a piano black trim. Under the hood it has the same engine as the one in the standard AWD Golf R, which is a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit that generates 266 hp (270 PS / 199 kW) and has a peak torque of 258 lb.-ft (350 Nm). It can do the 0-62 mph sprint in "less than 6 seconds", on its way to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Source: Volkswagen via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Ford Focus III Gets Tuning Package From Loder1899 Posted: 02 Jun 2011 10:00 PM PDT It's nice to see that every once in a while a tuning company decides to take an average car and create an upgrade program for it. Loder1899 has decided to roll out a tuning kit for the 3rd generation of the Ford Focus, the model fitted with the 2.0-liter diesel engine. In its standard output, this engine produces 138 hp (140 PS / 103 kW) and has a peak torque of 236 lb.-ft (320 Nm), but thanks to the modifications brought by the engineers at Loder1899, it has been dialed up to produce 192 hp (195 PS / 143 kW) and 291 lb.-ft (395 Nm). In addition, they've lowered the car by 35 mm and installed a stainless steel dual exhaust system. Also, you can get the full body kit in an RS-design, while the carbon fiber is an optional selection. Other goodies include the carbon covers on the headlights and the LED daytime running lights. You can choose from various designs of 18-, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels. The car plus the power boost upgrade will set you back at least 27,695 Euros. For the rest of the optional features, you'll have to pay more. Source: Loder1899 via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 02 Jun 2011 09:30 PM PDT During this year's Worthersee event, Skoda has revealed its Fabia vRS2000, a concept especially developed for this tuning show. The concept is based on the company's Super 2000 rally car and has been transformed as you can see, into a roadster, which means that this probably is the first open-top rally car in the world in which you can take three of your best friends. If we compare it to the standard vRS, this concept has significantly wider wheel arches and track, a new hood that sports two vents that cool down the engine, along with updated front and rear bumpers. Besides this concept, Skoda also brought to the 2011 Worthersee event the Fabia RS and the Fabia Monte Carlo. Source: Skoda via ZerCustoms Post published on Rpmgo.com |
EPA Spills The Beans, Reveals 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster Posted: 02 Jun 2011 09:00 PM PDT This shouldn't come as a surprise, but next year we will see the roadster version of the Lamborghini Aventador. We didn't get this confirmation from the Italian automaker or insider sources. No, we got it from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) who accidently confirmed the model. The car will be powered by the same engine as we find in the coupe version, which is a powerful V12 6.5-liter unit that develops 690 hp (700 PS / 515 kW) and has a peak torque of 509 lb.-ft (690 Nm). This engine is going to be mated to a 7-speed gearbox and an AWD system. The 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster will have a fuel economy rating of only 11 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway, but who cares about mileage when you drive such a beast? Fiat Dino Revival Envisioned By Concept Designer Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:00 PM PDT We haven't seen a coupe from Fiat since the Coupe model which was axed back in 2000. If the Italian automaker is thinking of a Dino revival, they could get their inspiration from Peter Norris, a British designer that revealed his vision of a new coupe from Fiat, but most likely not the successor of the Coupe, taking into consideration that it features the Pininfarina badge, which means that it's not as affordable as the Coupe was. Anyway, his concept is a front-engine, RWD luxury sports car that has a very sleek profile with an extremely low roofline. It also has big wheel arches while the front fascia reminds us of some Aston Martin models, especially if we take a closer look at those headlights. Out in the back, it has C-shaped taillights and the exhaust pipes have been mounted in the center. Peter Norris is from Rochester in Kent, United Kingdom and over the years he has worked for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and at Ideaworks 3d, which is a mobile games company. During his 7-years period that he spent at Free Radical Design, he was in charge of creating virtual vehicles for videogames like Star Wars: Battlefront III and Timesplitters 2. I really like this concept except for the low roofline and those taillights. Other than that, it's awesome. When we will be seeing a new Fiat Coupe or Dino? Time will tell. Until then all we can do is wait or turn our heads to other manufacturers as there are plenty of cars to choose from in this segment. Source: CarBodyDesign Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 02 Jun 2011 12:34 PM PDT Hot Rod compared three epic car models in order to see what 40 years of technology combined with tradition can do to a brand. While the engine performance clearly went to the newer models, modern design and series manufacturing made the 2011 cars lose their duels in favor of tradition and originality. Nothing can beat a classic. The ’69 Camaro SS 396 got into a one-on-one duel with the 2011 model of Camaro SS, the 70s Challenger faced the 2011 SRT8 of the same model and the Shelby Mustang GT500 met his ’69 ancestor.
