2012 Porsche Boxster, New Details Available Posted: 30 May 2011 09:30 PM PDT Our colleagues from CarMagazine have learned that the upcoming 3rd generation of the Porsche Boxster will be more differentiated from the 911, featuring a 4-cylinder engine and lots of technical modifications. The next Boxster (981) will not be an evolution of the current model, but an entirely new vehicle that will feature a cab-forward design which will be crisper and with sportier proportions. The wheelbase of the new Boxster will be 60mm longer, while the overall length will be up by 37mm. The height will be dropped by 10mm and in the cabin; the legroom will be improved by 18mm. Despite the fact that it is going to be a little bit bigger and with more equipment, the 3rd generation of the Porsche Boxster will weigh 15 kg less than the outgoing model, which means that it will have a curb weight of 1320 kg for the standard version and 1340 kg for the "S" model. The standard model will be powered by a 2.7-liter engine that will develop 265 hp and a peak torque of 280 Nm, while the Boxster S gets a more powerful 3.4-liter that churns 315 hp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to the PDK gearbox, the standard model will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 5.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 164 mph. The "S" needs only 4.9 seconds for the sprint and can reach a top speed of 171 mph The 3rd generation of the Porsche Boxster will make its official debut in January next year at the Detroit Motor Show. Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Revealed Posted: 30 May 2011 09:00 PM PDT After a couple of teasers and some spy shots, we now have the full information about the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. The car will get its official debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Roadster version of the sexy SLS AMG features a three-ply soft top that needs 11 seconds in order to be lowered or raised at speeds of up to 31 mph. The good thing is that despite the fact that it is entirely automatic and has a glass rear windows, it does not take away any of the trunk space as the SLS benefits from a cargo capacity of 173 liters, with/without the top on. As far as the cabin is concerned, you'll find leather upholstery, AMG sports seats (with AIRSCARF), metallic trim, AMG Performance Media system and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster is motivated by a V8 6.3-liter engine that develops 563 hp (571 PS / 420 kW) and has a peak torque of 479 lb.-ft (650 Nm). This power unit is mated to a 7-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, allowing the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds, before reaching a limited top speed of 197 mph (317 km/h), exactly the same as the Gullwing version. Posted: 30 May 2011 08:09 AM PDT We’re not sure, but we think we saw this in a Fast and Furious movie once. This guy really knows how to enter a car with style. Plus he’s keeping the car door unused. Win-win situation. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 30 May 2011 07:45 AM PDT Car rental businesses have a new competitor: Getaround, a new startup, enters on the market introducing the peer-to-peer car rental by using an iPhone App. Knowing the fact that US vehicles sit idle for an average of 22 hours every day, Getaround gives its users the possibility to sign their car up for use as a rental vehicle, which will consequently bring them money every time they don't use their car. This is how it works: by using an iPhone app and Getaround website, a car sharing network of users is created. The vehicle will be equipped on the dash with a car kit and will have a car key hidden on the inside. Whenever a customer selects a car to rent, the car owner locates the car on a map and uses the iPhone to unlock the vehicle and give access inside the car. In addition, insurance is covered by Getaround, and offers a full coverage. From all this business, the car owner gets 40% of earnings, and Getaround 60%. For the moment, the program is available only in San Francisco and San Diego, but is an exciting initiative, which could also lead to reducing the number of cars on the streets, as long as car owners have no problem with leaving their car on others' hands and have faith in their fellow drivers. Would you use this program and rent your car to a totally stranger? Post published on Rpmgo.com |

[Study] The Most Popular British Hairdresser’s Car Posted: 29 May 2011 09:58 PM PDT According to a new study made by the UK women's car insurance specialist Diamond, the most popular car among hairdressers is MINI One hatchback. Apparently, MINI brand has two vehicles in the top five, which we consider to be quite a success for the BMW Group's car manufacturer. The study was made over 18,000 British hairdressers and revealed the fact that MINI One is three and a half times more likely to be driven by a person working as a hairdresser than anybody else. On the second and third places in the top are Vauxhall Tigra, a convertible from GM's Europe and Volkswagen New Beetle – they are both more than three times as popular with hairdressers than the rest of the UK. On the last positions we find Ford Ka and Mini Cooper.
said Diamond managing director, Elwyn Gedrych. But this is not all: the study has also revealed the fact that British hairdressers are 33% more likely to drive a convertible model than drivers from other professions. What do you think about those results: should MINI One be considered the official hairdressers' car? Post published on Rpmgo.com |
