Cars We Hate Part 10 – Citroen Ami Posted: 29 May 2011 12:58 AM PDT As much as I like Citroen nowadays, most of the cars they've made the last century (except for the DS) were very ugly. A fine example is this Ami (French for "friend") that they've produced from 1961 until 1978. I've always hated these fenders that drop below the tire line and I always will. It had a top that extended from the back like a porch roof. Interesting, but hideous. Other things I don't like about this car? Those dot-sized brake lights and the weird-shaped windows. Despite its rather hideous appearance, at least in my opinion, the Citroen Ami was the best-selling car model in France for several years. The company rolled out 1,840,396 units, which is very impressive. The Ami was in fact a rebodied 2CV (another awful-looking car) that came with some mechanical upgrades. Most of the variants of the model were powered by a 602 cc 2-cylinder engine that was available in the 2CV. In addition, the suspension and the platform chassis were very similar to the 2CV. The Citroen Ami, along with the 1961 Ford Taunus, was the first cars in the world that came with rectangular headlamps. Source: Wikipedia.org Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Tesla Roadster Driven for 62,137 Miles In Less Than 24 Months Posted: 29 May 2011 12:44 AM PDT I'm not a big fan of EVs, but I've always had a soft spot for the Tesla Roadster. As you probably already found out, Tesla Motors will discontinue the Roadster later on this year, but I can't seem to understand why. Anyway, the man you see in this photo is Hansjörg von Gemmingen who managed to drive his car for 62,137 miles (100,000 kilometers) in less than two years since he bought the Roadster. He is a stockbroker that drives his car on a daily basis, filling up the batteries every night via his standard household outlet. This blue Roadster is the 83rd unit delivered in Europe and he said that he never had a problem finding a place to charge the batteries of the car. His mother-in-law, aged 82, installed a 240-volt (32-amp) at her house so that he could come and visit her more often. Probably his most impressive journey was when he took the Roadster for a 497-miles trip to Berlin where Tesla owners organized a gathering in 2010. Source: Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Top 5 Cars Discontinued This Year Posted: 29 May 2011 12:24 AM PDT Car manufacturers from all over the world are launching brand new models every year which means that they have to discontinue the old ones in order to make room for the fresh cars. In this article we are going to talk about some of the cars that we won't be seeing from now on, at least in the following period, unless they plan to make a comeback. 05. Volvo V70 This year we will have to say goodbye to the Volvo V70, the real station wagon: a large, comfortable and safe load-lugger. If you still want something similar, you can get the smaller V50 or the dressed-up, jacked-up XC70, but it won't be the same thing. 04. Saturn (the brand) Our 4th place in the top goes to the Saturn brand which has been killed by General Motors. In the 90s the things there went pretty smooth with employees that enjoyed making cars, buyers that loved the affordable price tags, along with some well-thought advertising campaigns. It went downhill when GM decided to forget about the plastic construction and sell the new Saturns as rebadged GM models. 03. Ford Explorer Sport Trac This part SUV / part truck was designed for those families that wanted a spacious 4-door interior cabin and lots of room for cargo. It wasn't made for hauling manure, but it does have a strong personality. For this year, Ford has decided to reinvent the Explorer model as a crossover. Is it a good thing or did they make a bad decision? We'll leave it up to you to decide this one. 02. Mercedes-Benz SLK AMGOffering plenty of comfort and a very potent V8 5.5-liter, we are sad to see the SLK AMG go, but we do know that MB and AMG are working on another model based on the new generation of the SLK. This is one of those cars that offer an authentic driving pleasure, combining a powerful engine with great looks. 01. Dodge Viper For a little while, we'll have to say goodbye to the Dodge Viper, until at least 2013 when the new generation will be launched. With a V10 8.4-liter engine that produces 600 hp and 560 lb.-ft of torque, the Viper is perhaps one of the most exciting cars ever made in North America. The model that will come after this will probably get a V8 engine and let's face it, it won't be that Viper we are all used to. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
S. Vettel Gets Pole In Monte Carlo Posted: 28 May 2011 11:31 PM PDT Sebastian Vettel managed to grab his fifth pole position this year by achieving the fastest time for today's Monte Carlo GP, finish a lap in 1m 13.556 seconds. He will be followed on the grid today by Jenson Button and Mark Webber. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso secured the 4th place on the starting line after a rather disappointing qualifying session, although on Friday's practice sessions he was the fastest. Yesterday's qualifying session turned out to be the worst in Sergio Perez's life after he crashed his car, racing out of the tunnel and then skidding across the track. He lost control of his Sauber when he was about to come out of the tunnel and he slammed into the tunnel barrier. Perez was the third driver this weekend that crashed his car, after Nico Rosberg and Vitantonio Liuzzi.
