The British auction house Bonhams will sell this car on July 1st at the Goodwood Festival of Speed auction. They say that the car will be sold for at least $162,000, but they wouldn't be surprised if it will fetch even $194,000. This stunning Lamborghini 400 GT is a 2+2 coupe, powered by a massive V12 3.9-liter engine that produces 316 hp (320 PS / 235 kW). New Details About The 2014 BMW X5 And X6 Models Posted: 26 May 2011 02:00 PM PDT The guys over at Automobile have found out that the new generations of the BMW X5 and X6 will come with a lot of improvements in the fuel efficiency area and they will also emit less CO2. Both crossovers will benefit from new axles that are going to be 150 kg (330 pounds) lighter than the current ones. Combining this with other weight-saving implementations, the base next-gen X5 model might have a curb weight of less than 1,814 kg (4,000 lbs). Both the X5 and the X6 will benefit from a new generation of fuel-efficient power units. Aside from the usual 6- and 8-cylinder engines, the crossovers will be available with two smaller 4-cylinder units, a gasoline and a diesel. In addition, hybrid versions are also under development, like one with a 6-cylinder 345 hp (350 PS / 257 kW) engine and a 108 hp (110 PS / 81 kW) electric motor. Even the hot "M" models will be "greener" as the report says that they will be up to 15% more fuel efficient than the ones we see on the road nowadays. However, they'll still feature the same engine, which is a V8 twin-turbo 4.4-liter, but they will update it in order to output 557 hp (565 PS / 416kW). As far as the design is concerned, the BMW X6 will feature a more functional appearance which will improve the rear passenger headroom and the rearward visibility. Inside the cabin, expect to see a look inspired from the 5-Series GT, featuring a panoramic moonroof, wood trim, leather upholstery, along with power-operated rear seats. The report says that we should expect the next-gen BMW X5 to make its first official appearance at the 2014 edition of the North American International Auto Show. The X6 will be out six month later. Posted: 26 May 2011 01:00 PM PDT A worthy rival for the Porsche 911 is in the works at Mercedes as the company's officials have confirmed that a new front-engined sports cars will be out in 2014, positioned beneath the exquisite (and very expensive) SLS. The Mercedes SLC will be a 2-seat, V8-powered car that will have a base price tag of about 75,000 pounds. The car is being developed by both MB and AMG. The latter will be responsible for taking care of the engineering, development and testing, just like they did with the aforementioned SLS. At first, the German automaker will launch the coupe version, but in 2016 they'll introduce a roadster variant which will feature a fabric roof. To keep the costs down to a minimum, Mercedes will use a lot of the components from the upcoming 7th generation of the SL which will be out in 2012. The car will be powered by a naturally-aspirated version of the newest "M157" engine developed by AMG. It will be a V8 5.5-liter power unit that will produce at least 420 hp in its standard configuration. Most likely, it will be mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox, an updated version of the one we find in the SLS. Source: AutoCar Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Dacia Duster No Limit Revealed Posted: 26 May 2011 11:00 AM PDT The French automaker Renault has finally revealed the specially-prepared version of the Romanian SUV Dacia Duster which will participate in this year's Pikes Peak Hill Climb event. As you can see, this version is totally different from the production model. Probably the biggest change over the regular version is the V6 3.8-liter engine borrowed from the all-mighty Nissan GT-R. They've tuned it and it now produces a whopping 850 hp! This powerful engine has been linked to a 6-speed Sadev sequential gearbox that was especially developed for this event. Renault says that the huge rear wing was necessary and the entire bodykit of the Duster was developed in the wind tunnel. Source: Renault via ZerCustoms Post published on Rpmgo.com |
U.S. Might Have To Face 62 MPG Eco Target Posted: 26 May 2011 10:00 AM PDT The United States president Barack Obama is being pressured by the local environmental groups who want tougher CAFE – Corporate Average Fuel Economy figures that if applied, would require new cars to do 62 mpg (74 mpg UK) by the year 2025. The California Air Resources Board, along with other influential groups from the country, wants to transform this into a law in 2012. This will have a huge impact not only in the U.S., but also on all of the premium car makers from Europe as they will have to reach that 62 mpg average for the entire lineup of models. If these targets will become a law, just about any car that is bigger than the Volkswagen Golf will have to be either a plug-in hybrid or must feature a range-extender electric drivetrain. According to some experts within the automotive industry, if this 62 mpg average will become mandatory, a new car will cost between $6,500 and $10,000 more than now. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers said that if the prices for cars will go up by 25%, many people working in the car manufacturing industry will lose their jobs. I don't think that this law will pass because it is a little bit too drastic and it comes with some considerable downsides. However, this trend will continue in the years to come and all manufacturers will have to come up with more eco-friendly cars and this can only be a good thing, if the prices for these cars will not go up. Production Version BMW M5 Spied Posted: 26 May 2011 09:00 AM PDT During the Shanghai Motor Show last month, BMW brought a concept version of the upcoming M5 and now we have some fresh spy shots with the production model which will hit the dealerships towards the end of this year. The guys over at AutoCar managed to take these photos somewhere near Nurburgring. It will make its official debut this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it will be powered by a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates 552 hp and has a peak torque of 510 lb.-ft, which is 52 hp and 126 lb.-ft more in comparison to the outgoing model that packs a V10 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated power plant. With this engine, the new M5 will be able to do the 0-60 mph sprint in about 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph (limited just like all "M" models). The German automaker said that the new generation of the M5 will be 25% more fuel efficient compared to the model that it will replace, thanks to the fact that it will feature the company's EfficientDynamic technologies, like: start/stop function, disengaging alternator and brake energy recuperation. BMW is also developing an all-wheel drive version of the upcoming M5 in order to satisfy its U.S. clients, where AWD Audi and Mercedes/AMG models are selling very well. In the United Kingdom, prices should start from around 75,000 pounds. Source: AutoCar Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Mugen Wants A Sporty Version Of The Honda Jazz Posted: 26 May 2011 08:00 AM PDT I never was a big fan of the Honda Jazz and a sporty version is not appropriate for such a car, at least that's my opinion. Anyway, Honda's UK-based performance tuning division has admitted that it wants to come up with a hot version of the supermini. You probably already know that Mugen is developing the limited-run supercharged version of the hybrid-powered CRZ so a sporty Jazz is not out of the equation. For the Japanese version of the Honda Jazz, Mugen offers plenty of styling packages, but the power increases are very small. In order to come up with a considerably more powerful Jazz, Mugen might use the supercharged hybrid configuration of the CRZ or the engine used in the Civic Type R, a 2.0-liter VTEC high-revving, normally aspirated power plant. I don't think that such a car will be successful in Europe where there are dozens of alternatives to choose from. Maybe, by adding a very aggressive bodykit will make the car look more appealing. The renderings in these photos look promising, but we don't know how the production version will look like, if there will be one. We'll have to wait and see. Posted: 26 May 2011 07:00 AM PDT Our esteemed colleagues from AutoCar have managed to grab a few spy shots with the highly anticipated hot ST version of the new Ford Focus, which should hit the UK dealerships at the beginning of next year. The model you see in these shots is one of the 60 development prototypes that are undergoing tests in Europe and North America. As we previously mentioned, the Ford Focus ST will be powered by a new 2.0-liter turbocharged Ecoboost engine that produces 247 hp. This power unit will be mated as standard to a 6-speed manual transmission and the company says that the Focus ST will come with class-leading fuel economy. In addition, they said that the car will feature a lower driving position in comparison to the previous model. Source: AutoCar Post published on Rpmgo.com |
