New Diesel Engine For The Suzuki Swift Posted: 26 May 2011 04:35 AM PDT Earlier this week, Suzuki announced that the Swift model is going to be available with a new 1.3-liter DDiS engine starting with next month. This 4-cylinder turbocharged power unit develops 74 hp and emits only 109 g/km of CO2, which is 9% less in comparison to the previous diesel engine that equipped the old Swift version. Fuel consumption has also been improved by 8%, which means that the Swift can do 67.3 mpg (UK) combined and has a driving range of up to 500 miles. With this Euro 5 compliant engine, the car can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 12.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 103 mph. The base model costs 12,890 pounds for the 5-door version and for this money you'll get: 7 airbags, AC, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated electric door mirrors and an USB port. Online Campaign for Saudi Woman’s “right to drive” Posted: 25 May 2011 08:04 AM PDT As women, we sometimes don't realize how lucky we are living in the country where we live, having the democratic rights that we have, having equal opportunities to men, being allowed to drive. Some of us don't have all those possibilities, but definitely fight for getting more. Such an example is the Arab woman, Manal al-Sharif, who has planned a women movement in her country for getting the right of driving cars. Her initiative was to launch a "Women Drivers" day on June 17. She has used YouTube, Faceboook and Twitter for posting videos of herself driving and messages to instruct other women about how to get involved in her cause, encouraging other Saudi women to do the same. Click here to view the embedded video. Unfortunately, the Saudi government interfered and Sharif was arrested, her videos removed, her Facebook page deleted and her Twitter account duplicated, posting messages indicating that she has stopped her efforts. However, the effects of using the internet for this campaign have already appeared and copies of Sharif's original messages can now be found on YouTube and an Al Jazeera report on her campaign is still available. Posted: 25 May 2011 06:25 AM PDT The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration takes into consideration the possibility that all vehicles to have an event data recorder, commonly known as a "black box" and similar to those used on aircraft. This device should record car inputs and in case of an accident and should provide information and technical data about the final moments before impact. Using "black box" on cars would help not only the police in finding out what caused an accident, but also the insurance companies and automakers. In order to obtain accurate information, the driver shouldn't be able to turn off the device or know more about this than what the owner's manual provide. Some car manufacturers use this type of device since late 2006. General Motors has been a leader in event data recorder technology, installing them in nearly all vehicles with airbags since the early 1990s. Therefore, federal rules already exist to outline what information should be recorded and its use, in order to increase vehicle's safety. The proposal of using such a "black box" device for all the vehicles is expected sometimes this year, including more information about exactly what data would be collected. What do you think about that: who will benefit most from this measure? Post published on Rpmgo.com |
