said Dr. Ben Lane of Next Green Car. We believe the map is of great use, especially because you can find all the charging points from your route in a single source. Additionally, it shows not only the type of charger (slow, fast, rapid), but also the prices and other details about how to access the charging station. For the moment, most of the locations registered on the map are with slow or standard charge, with up to 27 rapid chargers, which means that you can charge 80% your car in 30 minutes. Coincidentally or not, 26 of 27 chargers are Nissan dealerships. For the next period, Next Green Car hopes to increase the number of charging locations on the map and stay up-to-date, as new charging points are build. What do you think: would you like to have such a map for you? [Source: Nextgreencar] Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 18 May 2011 12:39 AM PDT If we were to believe our colleagues from CarMagazine.co.uk, the Ingolstadt-based automaker is working hard on a possible A9 model which should be out sometime in 2014. It will be a top-spec 4-seater coupe that will come with a bespoke exterior and an interior that promises to be better than the one in the current A8 flagship of the company. The coupe will be manufactured at Audi's plant in Neckarsulm where the R8 is also made. According to some sources that saw the initial design sketches of the A9, it promises to be a real eye-grabber. Also in the works is a soft-top version, which should be out in 2015, six months before Mercedes launches the next-gen CL Cabriolet. The Audi A9 will get a price tag that will be higher than the BMW 6-Series but lower than the Mercedes CL, which means that it should cost about 75,000 pounds in today's money. Taking into consideration that these are just rumors, the following list of possible engines is only a speculation: - V6 3.0-liter TFSI engine that produces 211 hp; - V6 3.0-liter TFSI single turbo engine that generates 290 hp; - V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo TFSI power unit with 420 hp; - V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo TFSI engine for the S9 version that packs 520 hp; - V6 3.0-liter TDI engine with 250 hp; - V8 4.32-liter TDI power plant that produces 350 hp. All these engines are rumored to be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and all of the A9 models will come as standard with Audi's Quattro system. A hybrid variant is also under development. Posted: 17 May 2011 06:00 PM PDT Our esteemed colleagues from WorldCarFans have managed to grab a few spy shots with the upcoming Audi R8 GT Spyder. As you can see, it wears the familiar GT bodykit that comes with a rather unattractive big rear spoiler and cool 19-inch alloy rims. The car will be powered by the same engine that we find in the normal GT version, which is a V10 5.2-liter unit that generates 553 hp (560 PS / 412 kW) and 398 lb.-ft (540 Nm). This means that the 0-60 mph sprint will be done in about 3.8 seconds and the top speed will be approximately 193 mph (311 km/h). If we were to believe the latest rumors regarding the R8 GT Spyder, Audi plans to make only 333 units. The car will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Kia Picanto UK Pricing Revealed Posted: 17 May 2011 07:00 AM PDT Earlier this year at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the Korean automaker Kia revealed the new generation of its Picanto, a cute-looking supermini. Now, they've revealed the price list for the UK market where it will be available from a base price of 7,995 pounds. The entry-level version, dubbed "1" is 11% more expensive in comparison to the model that it replaces, but I think that it is worth it, just by looking at the improved design. In addition, it comes as standard with 6 airbags and ESP. The model with the 1.0-liter engine emits only 99 g/km CO2, making it a lot cleaner than before and is zero-rated for tax. With an output of 68 hp, it is considerably more powerful than the old one. Moving up the lineup, we find the "2" trim level that starts from 9,595 pounds, powered by the same 1.0-liter engine, but adds manual AC, electric windows and Bluetooth. The most expensive model is the "3" trim level, which costs 11,195 pounds and features a 1.25-liter engine that generates 84 hp and emits 109 g/km of CO2. The three-door version of the Picanto is set to go on sale this October and it will become the most affordable one in the lineup. Kia announced that they will also launch several 3-door special editions as well as a sportier version. Source: Kia via WhatCar.com Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Jaguar’s Next Generation Mobile Integration – for Blackberry Posted: 17 May 2011 05:09 AM PDT At Blackberry World 2011, Jaguar is presenting a prototype smartphone integration system, the "Connect and View" technology for its XJ sedan. This system was developed together with RIM, Denso and RealVNC and allows the connection between the screen mounted on the dash and the server installed on a Blackberry smartphone. In this way, the user can interact with the phone through the touchscreen and the softkeys that replace the device's physical buttons, giving full access to all the functionality and options of the phone – music, applications, and maps. If wanted, Jaguar can block some app that could distract the user from driving. The audio option uses the Bluetooth to work, while the VNC traffic is routed over USB and keeps also the phone charged. This is how it works: Even if created specifically for the Blackberry, Jaguar has declared it can develop adapted versions also for Android and Windows Phone 7. Apparently, the system will be used on Jaguar and Land Rover cars in late 2012. What do you thing about Jaguar's initiative? [Source: Engadget] Post published on Rpmgo.com |
