Revolution Styling Chevrolet Camaro Spyder Revealed Posted: 17 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT Most of the tuning programs available for the sexy Chevrolet Camaro are for the coupe version, but the guys over at Revolution Styling took the convertible model and here is the end result. They put a lot of work into the car, installing their very own patent pending forward tilt hood. Based on the 2011MY, only 20 units will be made each year and the price tag for the conversion will range from $50,000 up to $80,000. It will go on sale this June at Chevrolet dealers. The first Camaro Spyder was exhibited in Chandler, Arizona at the 2011 Camaro5 event. It was powered by a massive 8-cylinder 6.2-liter engine that produced 610 hp and had a red jewel metallic paintjob with piano black rally stripes, along with the aforementioned reverse opening bonnet. Other modifications brought to the car include the front chin spoiler that has an air inlet, radiators and intercoolers, rear deck spoiler and Mpp Rocker panel replacements. Buyers will also have the possibility to acquire a rear diffuser that comes with a center exit exhaust, vented front fenders and some grille-work. The car rides on 21-inch multi-piece USW Forged rims. As far as the interior cabin is concerned, the Revolution Styling Chevrolet Camaro Spyder features a lot of perforated Alcantara and smooth Italian leather, available in just about any color that you can think of. Other goodies include the embroidered headrests and floor mats, Bluetooth, LED halo-ring headlamps, a powerful 245-watt sound system and rear parking assist. That 6.2-liter engine will allow the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in a mere 4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 180 mph. This power unit has been fitted with a 76 mm Turbonetics unit, along with a Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust, better intercoolers, a revised suspension, improved coil spring rate, Brembo 4-piston calipers (with hydraulic brake assist) and maximum damper sway bars. Posted: 17 May 2011 02:00 AM PDT Most of today's automakers focus on EVs or hydrogen-powered vehicles, but it seems that Audi is taking a different approach with its latest variant of the A3 hatchback. We already know that starting with 2013, the Ingolstadt-based company will start making a limited series of if A1 e-tron model, but now we've learned that they will also roll out a gas-powered version of the A3. At first, only 1,500 units will be built and all of them will run on a synthetic methane gas that is produced by using the electricity generated from purpose-built off-shore wind farms. Needless to say, this gas is considerably cleaner than regular gasoline and it is also a lot easier to make and distribute in comparison to hydrogen. Another advantage is that it doesn't make the car any heavier nor it comes with the limitations that we see in today's EVs. The Audi A3 e-gas will be powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces 109 hp and will come with two fuel tanks: one for gasoline and one for petrol, providing similar performances to the 1.2-liter TSI gasoline engine that is available for Audi's entry-level model, the A1. The car is able to hit a top speed of 118 mph and has a gas-only range of more than 250 miles. After that, the gasoline tank kicks in, working just about the same as in the Chevrolet Volt. The A3 e-gas is part of the company's "balanced mobility" initiative, just like the new synthetic e-gas plant that Audi will be build in order to supply the new cars, reducing the wheel-to-wheel emissions by up to 85% in comparison to the current gas-powered cars. This investment is estimated to worth over 10 million Euros. Source: Audi via AutoExpress.co.uk Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 17 May 2011 01:00 AM PDT After last week's announcement of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC, rumors started invading the Internet regarding a possible road-going version. Now, we have the confirmation that VW will launch a road-legal version, dubbed Polo R. Talking to our colleagues from Autocar.co.uk, one of the board members of the company, Ulrich Hackenberg that a model beyond the GTI version is "more likely". We should expect to see the Polo R in 2013-2014, after the debut of the WRC version. It will most likely feature an upgraded version of VW's 1.4-liter, supercharged or turbocharged. Taking into consideration that the current GTI version offers 177 hp, the R model will probably deliver 200 hp (or even more). There are small possibilities for a 4WD, but it wouldn't be quite a shock if we think of the upcoming Audi S1, a car from which the Polo R could borrow the system and justify the development expenditures. Spyker Teams Up With Another Chinese Investor To Save Saab Posted: 17 May 2011 12:27 AM PDT Saab's soap opera continues this week with the announcement made by Spyker in which they say that a new deal will be signed with another Chinese company. This time it is the Dhinese car distributor Pangda Automobile who promises to provide the necessary funding. This new deal is worth 65 million Euros over the medium term, but the good thing for Saab is that they will receive a 30 million Euros infusion right away, followed later on by another 15 million Euros. In exchange for this cash infusion, Pangda will get a 24% stake in Spyker and if all things go as planned, over the long term, the deal could worth even 110 million Euros. This Chinese company handles the distribution for the Toyota, Honda and Subaru brands in China. Hopefully, this time they will sign the deal and Saab will be saved for good. Posted: 17 May 2011 12:11 AM PDT Mcchip-dkr is a German aftermarket specialist and their latest tuning program is for the Porsche 911 GT2 997. The car still has the same 3.6-liter engine that we find in the standard version, but the power has been raised from 530 hp to 657 hp and the peak torque has also received a boost, up from the standard 680 Nm to 835 Nm. They did this by modifying the turbochargers, installing high-performance charge air coolers, along with Cargraphic 200-cell sport catalysts and manifolds. In addition, they've fitted the 911 with a silicone Tube Set and a Stage 3 software remapping by KUBATECH which said that the engine could output more than 900 Nm, but it would most likely have a negative impact on the car's derivability. This power kit is priced at 23,000 Euros and you will have to wait 6-8 working days to have it fitted to your 911 GT2 997. Source: mcchip-dkr via ZerCustoms Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Production-ready Toyota FT-86 Spied Posted: 16 May 2011 01:00 PM PDT The highly anticipated production version of the Toyota FT-86 has been spied in Germany by our colleagues from WCF. Despite the fact that it is wearing a lot of camouflage, we can guess that it will feature a design that mixes what we've seen in the first FT-86 concept and the more aggressive FT-86 II concept. This rear-wheel drive car will feature a 2.0-liter boxer power unit that will generate about 200 hp (203 PS / 149 kW). This engine will be mated to either a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or the optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The production version of the Toyota FT-86 will make its official debut later on this year and will be followed by the Scion FR-S as well as a Subaru variant. Oakley Design Lamborghini Aventador LP760-2 Announced Posted: 16 May 2011 12:06 PM PDT The Lamborghini Aventador has been released only several weeks ago and we already have a tuning program under development, courtesy of Oakley Design. Dubbed the "LP760-2", it comes with a rear-wheel drive system and has lost its front differential along with the related parts. By doing this, the tuning company says that they've managed to shave off 187 pounds (85 kg). In addition, the ECU of the V12 6.5-liter engine has been remapped and the tuning firm says that they expect to increase the output of the power unit to 760 hp (771 PS / 567 kW) and 550 lb.-ft (745 Nm) of torque, which is 70 hp (71 PS / 52 kW) and 41 lb.-ft (55 Nm) more than the standard specifications of the engine. Design-wise, the Lamborghini Aventador LP760-2 by Oakley Design will feature redesigned bumpers, updated side skirts, along with a new rear diffuser. Other goodies include the carbon fiber roof and the lightweight alloy rims wrapped around Pirelli PZero rubber. We don't have any information regarding the price tag of this extreme car, but we do know that Oakley Design will make only five of them, and three units have been already sold. Mercedes E-Class Cabrio by Carlsson Posted: 16 May 2011 08:00 AM PDT The German tuners from Carlsson have revealed their latest aftermarket program for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet. They took the E 350 CDI model that comes with a V6 3.0-liter diesel engine that delivers 231 hp as standard and they've managed to raise its output by 20% to 280 hp and also increase the peak torque from the standard 398 lb.-ft (540 Nm) to 478 lb.-ft (648 Nm). They also remapped the ECU, installed sport springs that can lower the car by 30 mm and improve its handling capabilities. The car now sits on lightweight Carlsson-designed rims, available from 18- to 20-inches. Other goodies include the sport end mufflers that have double-walled stainless steel end tubes. Wheelsandmore 2011 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Posted: 16 May 2011 06:00 AM PDT The German aftermarket specialists over at Wheelsandmore have come up with a tuning program for the beautiful Aston Martin V8 Vantage, offering an increase of power, a new suspension, new wheels and other upgrades. The car now sits on 21-inch 3-piece 6Spor² forged wheels covered by 255/30/21 rubber (front) and 295/25/21 rubber (rear). From KW they got a new suspension kit that features a rebound and compression adjustable coil-over stainless steel variant 3 configuration.
