E64 BMW 6-Series Convertible by Lumma Design Posted: 11 May 2011 02:00 PM PDT The previous generation of the BMW 6-Series has been brought back to life by the guys over at Lumma Design courtesy of this new full aerodynamic bodykit that includes an M-style front bumper, new side skirts that are now more prominent, along with an updated rear bumper that features side openings, along with diffuser that incorporates quad tail pipes. As you can see, the car has been lowered and sits on a new set of 21-inch polished chrome rims, covered by high performance tires that measure 255/30 21 (front) and 295/25 21 (rear). Living In UK? Don’t Get A Lexus IS! Here’s Why! Posted: 11 May 2011 01:00 PM PDT The reason why you shouldn't get a Lexus IS if you live in the United Kingdom is because according to a recent study, it is the most vandalized car in the country. Other "desirable" cars are the BMW Z4 and the Mini One. SwiftCover.com's Vehicle Vandalism Index has revealed this information, analyzing more than 2,200 motor insurance claims. Here is the complete top 10 of the most vandalized cars in the United Kingdom. The last figure is the "VV Index" which shows the percentage possibility that the car would be vandalized in a 1-year period (2009-2010) multiplied by 10. 1 Lexus IS 5.56 Source: Swiftcover.com via Yahoo Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Fast Five’s Paul Walker will star in another fast car thriller movie called Vehicle 19 Posted: 11 May 2011 08:39 AM PDT Fast Five star Brian O’Connor is surely going to get the audience back to the theatres in 2012 for another epic car ride action movie. The shooting for Vehicle 19 will start in the 3rd semestre of this year in South Africa and will feature Paul Walker running from the police with a special stolen vehicle. None of the other cast members are announced but we think that Fast Five fans will need no other reason to hit the cinema.

Kia Optima Hybrid Gets $27,250 Price Tag Posted: 11 May 2011 08:00 AM PDT Remember the Kia Optima Hybrid? Well, it now has an official base price of $26,250. Revealed last year during the Los Angeles Auto Show, it is the sister model of Hyundai's Sonata Hybrid and has the same hybrid powertrain. The car is expected to hit the U.S. dealerships in June and is going to be a little bit more expensive than the Sonata, which is priced from $25,795. The hybrid configuration of the Optima features a modified Theta II 2.4-liter engine that runs on the Atkinson cycle, producing 166 hp and a peak torque of 151 lb.-ft. This 4-cylinder gasoline power unit is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and an electric motor that generates 40 hp (30 kW) and 151 lb.-ft of torque. Running the car in hybrid mode, the combined power reaches 206 hp and 195.4 lb.-ft of torque. The hybrid package is completed by the lithium polymer batteries developed by LG Chem. The Korean automaker says that the car can return 35 mpg in the city and 40 mpg while on the highway. The base model comes with a push-button start, dual-zone automatic temperature control (with rear vents), 8-way power adjustable driver's seat, Kia's UVO-powered by Microsoft hands-free, infotainment and communication systems, along with 16-inch alloy rims. The Hybrid Premium Technology Package will set you back another $5,000 and brings 17-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, driver's seat memory, 4-way power adjustable front passenger's seat, heated steering wheel and rear seats, heated & cooled front seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, a navigation system that sports a backup camera, 8-speaker Infinity sound system and HID headlamps with automatic leveling. Spy Shots – Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Posted: 11 May 2011 07:30 AM PDT Last week, the German automaker Mercedes-Benz released a batch of photos with its upcoming 2012 SLS AMG Roadster model, wearing a little bit of camouflage. Now, courtesy of Carscoop, we get to see the car in all its roadster glory, without wearing any makeup, except for the badge on the bonnet and on the lights. These spy shots were taken on the streets of Germany and I have to say that the car looks absolutely remarkable, but not as pretty as the coupe version. The company said that because the coupe and roadster versions were created in parallel, the engineers had the possibility to consider the structural differences between these two, managing to keep the weight of the open top version down to a minimum. And so they did, as the bodyshell of the cabrio has a curb weight of 536 pounds (246 kg), only five pounds more than its coupe sibling. As a reminder, the SLS AMG Roadster features the same engine as the one found in the Coupe, a V8 6.2-liter that produces 571 hp (for the European version), and 563 hp (for the U.S.-spec model). The power unit has been installed behind the car's front axle and all that power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Source: Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Ford Releases Photos Of A 2012 Focus ST Prototype Posted: 11 May 2011 07:00 AM PDT We have talked lots of times about the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus ST here on rpmGo, and now the automaker has released new photos of a prototype, while undergoing its final testing. As a reminder, the car will be powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that produces about 246 hp (250 PS / 184 kW). Ford has coupled engineers from its Team RS (Europe) and SVT (North America) units for putting out a fleet of about 60 pre-production prototypes through a final and extensive round of testing and development which will help fine-tune the car. We don't get to see that often pictures released by a car manufacturer of a prototype like this Focus ST, but Ford is aiming high with its new model and wants to grab our attention by any means necessary. Young Female Racers to the 2011 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy Posted: 11 May 2011 06:55 AM PDT Well, racing is a male-dominated sport. This doesn't mean that exceptions aren't allowed, especially when the Women & Motor Sport Commission and the Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK-FIA) have teamed-up to award the most outstanding young female talent for racing competitions. They organized a two-day shoot-out in Geneva, Switzerland, with nine aspiring female kart racers, all below the age of 16. During the two days, they have tested the physical and mental capabilities of the candidates, in activities designed to assess their movement, agility and reflexes and the reaction of their bodies to stress. Tests about their knowledge of karting history and sporting regulations were included and also a circuit demonstration of speed and racing ability. The winner was a 15 girl from France and the prize she got was a fully funded ride in the 2011 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, where she’ll face off 50 contenders. What is your opinion: should this type of initiatives be encouraged or women should stay out of this sport? [Source: Autoblog] Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Ford Mustang Mayhem Package Revealed Posted: 11 May 2011 06:17 AM PDT At the beginning of this week, Ford has revealed its "Mayhem" package for the 2012 Mustang V6 model. It comes with a sport-tuned suspension, an updated electronic stability system and a strut tower brace. Other goodies that are offered with this package include the bespoke 19-inch alloy rims that are wrapped around in Pirelli rubber, as well as a high-performance braking system and a 3.31 rear axle ratio. The name "Mayhem" was chosen after Ford conducted a Facebook contest, where they've received more than 3,000 submissions. As a reminder, the most affordable Mustang is the one with the V6 3.7-liter engine that produces 305 hp (309 PS / 227 kW) and has a peak torque of 280 lb.-ft (379 Nm). Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, it can return 19 mpg (city) and 29 mpg (highway). Source: Ford via WCF | Photo: AutoBlog Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Volkswagen Group and its in-car file storage – in collaboration with Microsoft Posted: 11 May 2011 05:39 AM PDT The Volkswagen Group and Microsoft teamed up to develop the next generation of information storage in the automotive industry and some innovative strategies for the passengers' entertainment. This partnership was simple: Volkswagen contracted a supplier for its infotainment software and Microsoft agreed to license its Extended File Allocation Table technology (that helps automakers integrate enhanced consumer multimedia into cars) to that supplier. The result: the software developer has now the possibility to squeeze more information into smaller spaces and the time for data access has dropped considerably. Additionally, exFAT will give car owners additional and reliable resources for bringing multimedia content into their vehicles.
said Uwe Reder, managing director at e.solutions. We think that's a good initiative for the two partners. How do you feel about it: is it worth their effort? [Source: Autoblog, Photos: Microsoft, VW] Post published on Rpmgo.com |
