Ferrari Axes 599 Facelift Version, Prepares Successor For Next Year Posted: 10 May 2011 07:00 PM PDT The facelift version of Ferrari's 599 was supposed to be launched sometime next year, but due to the immense success of the recently introduced FF model, the Italian automaker has decided to drop this project, focusing on a brand new successor for the 599, which will be derived from the FF. The new model is expected to be powered by a V12 engine that will produce 700 hp. It will feature an aluminum frame that will made out of 20 different alloys that will go with some composite panels. The rear axle will feature a multi-link configuration, while the engine will be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transaxle gearbox, something that we've already seen on the 458 Italia, California and the FF. In other words, expect to see a sportier, more powerful and aggressive version of the FF, with more track-oriented aspirations. Source: TopSpeed Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Aussies Get Hyundai i45 With Smaller Engine Posted: 10 May 2011 06:00 PM PDT The Hyundai i45 is the Australian version of the Sonata mid-size sedan and it has received a smaller engine that becomes the entry-level point for the lineup. We are talking about a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter power unit that produces 162 hp (121 kW) @ 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 198 Nm @ 4,600 rpm. This engine can be linked to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a more comfortable 6-speed automatic transmission. The Korean automaker stated that this version of the i45 can do 30.9 mpg (7.6 liters / 100 km) when equipped with the automatic gearbox. The more powerful 2.4-liter unit, that delivers 198 hp (148 kW) and a peak torque of 250 Nm, can do 29.8 mpg (7.9 liters / 100 km), with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The model fitted with the 2.4-liter engine cannot be mated to the manual gearbox. The price for the Hyundai i45 in Australia starts from AU$26,990 (manual gearbox) and from AU$28,590 (automatic gearbox). Source: Hyundai via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Brazil – Mandatory Ethanol Blend Drops From 25% To 18% Posted: 10 May 2011 05:00 PM PDT Due to the reason that the price of ethanol in Brazil has risen to a new record level, the country's government has decided to reduce the mandatory ethanol blend in gasoline to only 18%. Up until recently, all of the gasoline commercialized in Brazil had to be at least 25% ethanol. Now, when the ethanol is in short supply, the country's government has decided to do something about it. This limit goes into effect immediately. The reason why the price of ethanol has risen over the last several months is mainly because of the limited sugarcane harvest. The energy minister in Brazil, Edison Lobao, said that although the price has begun to drop, the government will still move forward with the plans of reducing the mandatory ethanol blend in gasoline. Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Gets Closer To Production Posted: 10 May 2011 02:00 PM PDT The Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has given its clearest indication that the astonishing Sesto Elemento will go into a limited series production for the whopping price of about 2 million Euros. Despite the fact that Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini's boss says that the car has 50:50 chances of being green-lighted for production, company insiders say that the model is in fact in the advanced stages of its development. The good news is that Winkelmann confirmed that the Sesto Elemento will be capable of sprinting to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, making it quicker than the all-mighty Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, a car that packs 1183 hp. The Lambo will feature a Gallardo-sourced V10 5.2-liter engine, but that impressive figure will come courtesy of the car's light weight construction. Although lots of people say that the production model can't have a curb weight of 995 kg like in the concept, Lamborghini's boss said that it "will weigh less than a tone." Most likely, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento won't be road legal, due to the reason that in order to achieve that incredible curb weight, it will feature a stripped-out cabin and a highly experimental forged carbon fiber construction. In other words, there are slim chances that the car could be homologated as a road-going model. From earlier reports, we learned that the car will cost 1 million Euros, but as we said in the first paragraph, the price will be almost double, if we were to believe Winkelmann, who also said that Lamborghini will make only 20 units. Although this price might sound exorbitant, and it probably is, remember the Reventon? Only 20 units were ever made, all wearing a 1 million Euros (+ local taxes) price tag, and all of them were sold within a week after the car was announced. In other words, we're pretty sure that Lamborghini won't have any problems whatsoever in selling the 20 Sesto Elemento units planned for production. Report – U.S.-spec Mazda6 And Subaru Tribeca To Be Axed Posted: 10 May 2011 01:00 PM PDT According to a newspaper report from the Japanese business daily Nikkan Kogyo, both the Mazda6 and the Subaru Tribeca will be discontinued due to slow sales that undermine the production efficiency of the factories in the United States where the cars are manufactured. The newspaper mentions that Mazda will end making its Mazda6 model at the factory in Flat Rock, Michigan, which is operated in a joint venture with Ford. Back in 2008, when the latest generation model was introduced, the Japanese automaker said that they want to produce about 100,000 units per year, but in 2010, they've rolled out only 45,168 cars. Last month, the company posted a 7.8% increase, but sales reached only 2,734 units. However, Mazda won't say goodbye to the mid-size segment as it is very important for the company. The same report says that the company is seeking new opportunities of rolling out a brand new model or making a similar vehicle for less production costs in Mexico. Regarding the Subaru Tribeca, it went into production in 2005 at the company's plant in Indiana. Nikkan Kogyo says that Subaru has stopped developing a new generation of the SUV and plans to use the factory's remaining capacity to build the better-selling Legacy and Outback models. Up until now, Subaru delivered only 910 units of its Tribeca sport utility vehicle. Source: Nikkan Kogyo via AutoNews via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Audi R8 STaSIS Challenge Extreme Edition Revealed Posted: 10 May 2011 12:30 PM PDT If by any chance you are the proud owner of the V8-powered Audi R8 and want to play in the same league as the more powerful V10 version, the tuners over at STaSIS have the perfect solution for your problem. Dubbed the "Challenge Extreme Edition" this mode Audi R8 pack 120 hp more ponies in comparison to the V10 model and at the same time it weighs less. It has the same engine as the regular model but STaSIS added a supercharger, raising the output to 540 hp, while the peak torque is 435 lb.-ft. After a strict diet, the R8 has a curb weight of 1575 kg, enabling the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in a mere 3.6 seconds. They've also installed lowering springs that improve handling, while at the same time giving the car a more masculine and aggressive look. The R8 now sits on 9.5×20 ultra lightweight forged aluminum wheels (front), 12×20 forged aluminum rims (rear), wrapped around in high-performance low-profile tires. Extra power requires bigger brakes so the R8's new braking system consists of Alcon 390 mm front / 35 mm rear, with 2-piece floating discs. Lastly, they've installed a brand new stainless steel, cross-flow exhaust system that reduces back pressure, improving efficiency and power. They've only brought modifications to the car's exterior, installing a new front spoiler lip with lateral grids, side skirt covers and LEDs on the side sills. Dubbed "Accurian RS", we find a new rear bumper that packs an integrated diffuser, along with a boot lid spoiler. Other goodies installed by the engineers over at Piecha Design are the MP1 high-tech wheels, measuring 8.5×19 (front) and 10.5×19 (rear), lowering springs (which reduce the car's ride height by 25 mm) and the new sport exhaust system that features QUADRO 4-tube mufflers.
