2012 U.S. F1 GP Will Be Held On The “Circuit of the Americas” Posted: 13 Apr 2011 04:30 AM PDT You probably know by now that in 2012 we will witness the comeback of the U.S. GP in F1. Hosted in Austin, Texas, it features a 3.4-mile racetrack that has 20 turns, 133 feet of elevation change, and a 10-year F1 contract. "Circuit of the Americas" will not be only a venue for an F1 race as starting with 2013, CotA will start a 10-year contract with the MotoGP series, which means that the United States will have three races in the competition, the others being Indy and Laguna Seca. The question is: when will we be seeing a proper all-American F1 team? Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 13 Apr 2011 04:00 AM PDT The Shanghai Motor Show was never an important venue for car manufacturers, but lately more and more automakers have brought their latest offerings to the Chinese market, increasing the importance of this automotive event. Later on this month we are going to see a lot of cool cars, here are just a few examples: BMW M5 Concept, Audi Q3, Mercedes A-Class Concept, Subaru XV, along with the new Chevrolet Malibu and the Buick Envision crossover. Of course, Mini will be there too. They will bring the Goodwood show car in Shanghai and for this occasion they've revealed this teaser image. The car is the result of a joint venture between Mini and Rolls-Royce and its official name is "Mini Inspired by Goodwood". We'll probably see a Mini exterior and a Rolls-Royce interior. Price tag? Probably something in between. More information should be out in the following period. Stay tuned. Source: Mini via AutoBlog Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Air France A380 pilot scratches a plane. Badly Posted: 13 Apr 2011 02:24 AM PDT Click here to view the embedded video. Although we can’t be sure that this is entirely the pilot’s fault, we could imagine he had something to do with it. The story is that an Air France Airbus A380-800 clipped a Comair Bombardier CRJ-700 at New York’s J.F.K. International Airport. We’re just glad that there was no one in the plane that got hit, because that would’ve been very, very uncomfortable. That will leave a nasty scratch though. Via Failblog. Fast Five LIVE from Rio de Janeiro on Facebook Posted: 12 Apr 2011 10:23 AM PDT
The best thing about it is that you can see the entire event, because it’ll be broadcasted live on Facebook! The movie premiere will be followed by interviews with the Fast Five superstars: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, and Jordana Brewster, who we know love Facebook. And Facebook loves them back, especially since they’ll be answering questions posted on the Facebook event page. What do you want to ask them? Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Caterham Seven Supersport Revealed Posted: 12 Apr 2011 09:00 AM PDT Caterham's Seven Supersport was designed to be fast on the track and fully street legal at the same time. It features a Ford Sigma 1.6-liter engine that churns out 140 hp and 120 lb.-ft of torque. This 4-cylinder power unit is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with "sprint" ratio gearing. With a curb weight of only 1,146 pounds (520 kg), it will sprint to 60 mph in only 4.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h). The car benefits from a race-tuned suspension, featuring uprated springs and dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars and a lightweight flywheel. It rolls on 13-inch rims that have been covered by CR500 Avon tires. The track-biased dashboard has integrated change up lights, along with an aero screen, composite race seats, plus a 4-point race harness. The price tag for the fully factory-built model is 22,995 pounds, but if you are willing to assembly it yourself, you will pay only 19,995 pounds. Posted: 12 Apr 2011 08:00 AM PDT Yesterday, Audi released a batch of sketches that preview the next generation of its A3 model, a car that will go on sale in late 2012. In these drawings we are able to see the 3-door hatchback and sedan versions, along with a cockpit view. This is the first time when the German automaker offers a preview at the design of its future compact model. The 3-door version seems to be a little bit more dynamic and has a sharper appearance, with a narrow glasshouse and big wheel arches, along with a crease in the lower part of the door. As far as the interior is concerned, it looks just about the same as the one in the A3 Concept that was unveiled at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show in March, except for the fact that this one has less buttons and switches, and no regular center console as it was replaced by a prominent central tunnel. The upcoming generation of the A3 will benefit from a lot of high-tech features (as optional extras), like MMI infotainment system that has a touchscreen which comes out from the upper part of the dashboard. Most likely, the car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next year in the 3-door hatchback version. The 5-door and sedan models will probably be launched a couple of months later. The A3 sedan will be designed especially for markets like the one in the United States or China. Rumors say that it will have similar proportions with the original A4 sedan, along with a +35mm longer wheelbase than the 3-door hatchback model. Besides gasoline and diesel engines, the new Audi A3 will most likely be offered with a hybrid / plug-in hybrid, natural gas and electric powertrains. Video of Petrov taking off in Malaysia F1 Race Posted: 12 Apr 2011 07:42 AM PDT Vitaly Petrov took off with all four wheels at the Malaysian Gran Prix on Saturday and now we have video proof of the incidents. The landing was so rough it actually dismantled the steering wheel from the dashboard. We cannot imagine what it would feel like to take off at that speed, but it’s definitely spectacular to see it, especially since nothing bad happened. Click here to view the embedded video. 4G Network Interfering with GPS Units? Posted: 12 Apr 2011 06:18 AM PDT We live into a world of real-time data, radio frequencies and different types of signals which, in our belief, improve our lives. But, when it comes to combining technologies like 4G and GPS, there seems to be a problem: we cannot use both of them simultaneously. Or at least this is the result of a report made by Scott Burgett and Bronson Hokuf, engineers at Garmin International. The engineers made some lab simulations, trying to see if the de 4G base stations on the ground have any influence on the GPS satellite band. The result was that both occupy similar spectrum of bands: GPS satellites transmit signals in bands between 1559 and 1610 megahertz, while 4G stations use the 1525 to 1559 MHz range. This wouldn't have been a problem if the tests wouldn't have shown that the overlap of bands could seriously compromise GPS reception over vast areas of the United States. Consequently, difficulties with time serving, saving and monitoring activities could appear, which could seriously endanger human lives. Meanwhile, LightSqared, the company that plans to build the new 4G transmitters says that the two systems can work together perfectly and their systems won’t be turned on until there are assurances that GPS signals won’t be lost. What do you think: do the two systems interfere so that to generate important system issues and reception problems? Post published on Rpmgo.com |
