Ferrari 458 Challenge, Stretching Its Legs At Monza Posted: 11 Apr 2011 04:13 AM PDT Click here to view the embedded video. We've first talked about the Ferrari 458 Challenge back in December when the Italian automaker launched it. After its official debut at the Bologna Motor Show, we now have this video with the supercar doing a fast lap on the legendary Monza circuit. Behind the wheel is Stefano Gai, who is the World Champion in the 2010 Trofeo Pirelli Italia. The engine of the Challenge is the same one that you will find in the Italia, which is a V8 4.5-liter power plant that churns out 570 hp @ 9,000 rpm. However, the engineers over at Ferrari have modified the gear ratios and calibration of its dual-clutch F1-style gearbox in order to provide a bigger torque at lower revs. Source: Ferrari via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Jeep Compass Gets 16,995 Pounds Price Tag In UK Posted: 10 Apr 2011 08:00 AM PDT The facelift version of the Jeep Compass will go on sale next week in the UK, with a starting price of $27,783 for the entry-level model, and all the way up to $39,227 for the fully-loaded one. The car will be available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations, and will come with a 3-year / 60,000-mile warranty. The 2011MY benefits from a wide array of modifications, starting with the facelifted exterior look to the heavily updated interior, along with the new engine options. In the UK, the car is going to be available in four trim levels, and the 4×4 Limited, along with the 70th Anniversary models will be available for sale right after launch date (April 15th). As far as the Sport and Sport+ versions, you will be able to order one of them starting this August. There are going to be three engine options available: two on gas and one diesel. The entry-level 4-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline power plant delivers 158 hp and 141 lb.-ft (191 Nm) of torque, and is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission. The bigger 2.4-liter unit cranks out 172 hp and 165 lb.-ft (223.7 Nm) of torque, mated to a CVT2 (continuously variable transmission). As far as the diesel engine is concerned, it is a 2.2-liter that is available in two output configurations: 134 and 161 hp. This power plant has been developed especially for the Compass in collaboration with the German automaker Mercedes-Benz and benefits from the latest common rail technology. The 161 hp version offers 236 lb.-ft (320 Nm) of torque from 1,400 rpm. Both of them are coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the company expects that this diesel will account for 65% of the car's sales in the United Kingdom. As standard, the car gets automatic climate control, electric windows, trip computer, CD/MP3 player, remote central locking, along with electrically operated and heated folding door mirrors. The Fiat Freedom Drive I 4×4 system is available with the 2.4-liter gasoline power unit or with the most powerful diesel engine. The full-time active four-wheel-drive system sports a locking mode for low traction conditions, and on normal driving roads, the power is sent to the front wheels. As needed, this system is capable of shifting power from the front to the rear axle of the car. Source: Jeep via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Fiat Freemont, Now Available For Order In Italy Posted: 10 Apr 2011 07:00 AM PDT Starting with this week, the Fiat Freemont, which is a rebadged Dodge Journey, is available for order in Italy. The model is offered in two trim levels: "Freemont" and "Urban", and has a base price of $37,000. As standard, the car packs seven seats, 3-zone automatic climate control, radio CD+MP3, cruise control, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, trip computer, 17-inch alloy rims, tire pressure monitoring system, fog lights, child booster system and keyless entry system. If you choose the "Urban" trim level (priced from $39,170) you also get leather-covered steering and gearshift lever, Bluetooth, lights sensor, parking sensors, blacked-out rear windows, electrically adjustable driver's seat and roof rails. At the moment, the car is offered only with a 2.0-liter Multijet diesel power unit that is available in two output configurations: 140 and 170 hp. The latter has a peak torque of 258 lb.-ft (350 Nm), available from 1,750 rpm. With this engine, the Fiat Freemont can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 10.2 seconds. Both trim levels come with the 140 hp engine, and if you want to upgrade it to the 170 hp one, you'll have to pay $2,160. Later on this year, the car is going to be available with a more powerful Chrysler-sourced V6 3.6-liter engine that cranks out 276 hp. This engine, along with the more powerful diesel will also be offered with AWD versions and mated to an automatic gearbox. Fiat's engineers improved the geometry of the car's front suspension in order to make it more suitable for European tastes, reducing body roll and optimizing the balance between handling and comfort. For the launch event, the Italian automaker offers the Freemont in the "Urban" trim level for a promotional base price of $35,860, and also adds leather upholstery, without any additional costs. Posted: 10 Apr 2011 05:51 AM PDT Back in March 2010, BMW revealed the Z4 GT3 racer, and now they're back with the updated version of the car, featuring improved aerodynamics efficiency along with other various tweaks to make it more competitive in the GT3 class. The company's engineers updated the electronics of the car's V8 4.4-liter engine, a power unit that is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox. Despite the fact that they didn't reveal any info about the output of the engine, we know that the original version delivered more than 473 hp (480 PS / 353 kW). This race-ready Z4 GT3 can be yours if you are willing to spare at least $454,550. Source: BMW via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Ferrari 125 S – The First One Of The Breed Posted: 10 Apr 2011 05:40 AM PDT It all started back in 1947 with the launch of the very first model produced and built by Ferrari of Modena, Italy. We are talking about the 125 S (also known as 125 Sport or 125). Despite the fact that it was preceded by Enzo Ferrari's Auto Avio Costruzioni 815 (launched in 1940), the 125 S was in fact the first car to wear the Ferrari name. The debut occurred on May 11, 1947 at the Piacenza racing circuit. Just like the aforementioned 815, it was a racing sports car, but it featured a V12 engine, instead of the one found on the 815, which was a Fiat-powered 8-cylinder power plant. The car featured a steel tube-frame chassis and had a double wishbone suspension, with transverse leaf springs in the front axle and live axle out in the back. Both front and rear wheels had hydraulic power drum brakes. That V12 engine we've mentioned was a 1.5-liter Gioacchino Colombo and it produced 118 hp (74 kW) @ 7,000 rpm. It featured a dual overhead camshaft design with 2 valves per cylinder and had three double-choke Weber 30DCF carburetors. Posted: 10 Apr 2011 05:00 AM PDT We thought that after last week's top 10 best movies about cars, another one about the coolest car-related songs is in order. Feel free to suggest other songs that we haven't included in the top. Some of the songs that made it into Top Gear's top 10 have also been included here. Metallica – Fuel Click here to view the embedded video. From Metallica's "ReLoad" album released in 1998, we find "Fuel", which was used for several years for the televised NASCAR events. In the song, the frontman of the band, James Hetfield, proclaims his love for all cars that are over-driven and chrome-plated. The Beatles – Drive My Car Click here to view the embedded video. The song is about a young man who is seduced by a would-be starlet into quitting his regular day job to become her limo driver, but the catch is that she doesn't actually own a car. I'm not a fan of the Beatles but this song is very nice. Queen – Don't Stop Me Now Click here to view the embedded video. Released in 1978 on Queen's Jazz album, the song was written by legendary Freddie Mercury. At that time, it was considered to be one of the lesser songs in Queen's repertory, but it turned out to be a very good driving song after all. The Beach Boys – Little Deuce Coupe Click here to view the embedded video. Considered to be Brian Wilson's ode to the epic 1932 Model B Ford Coupe, the album features a series of car-themed songs and is considered to be one of the first albums about cruising and driving. Gary Numan – Cars Click here to view the embedded video. One of my favorite songs of all times, Gary Numan's Cars is part of "The Pleasure Principle" album released in 1979. The artist got its inspiration from a scary road rage incident – while stuck in London's traffic, Numan had to use his car as a "protective shell" when he was assaulted by a group of pissed of drivers. Golden Earring – Radar Love Click here to view the embedded video. The subject of this song is the point of view of a car driver that drives to his lover and communes with her without physical means like letters or telephone. In his radio, he hears Brenda Lee's "Coming on Strong". The Clash – Brand New Cadillac Click here to view the embedded video. A cover of Vince Taylor's 1958 track, it is part of the band's 1979 "London Calling" album, probably one of the best driving songs ever written. Fleetwood Mac – The Chain Click here to view the embedded video. Part of the band's best-selling album "Rumors", the song has a basic rock structure, despite the fact that it has two different portions: the main verse and chorus, and the outro. Probably one of the best songs of the late 70s. War – Low Rider Click here to view the embedded video. This song has been covered by dozens of bands and featured in endless TV shows and movies. Part of the band 1975 "Why can't we be friends?" album, it is a lifestyle-defining celebration of Latino car-customizing and cruising. Steppenwolf – Born To Be Wild Click here to view the embedded video. By far the best song about cars in my opinion is Steppenwolf's "Born to be wild". It was the soundtrack of the epic movie Easy Rider, released in 1969, and All Music Guide's Hal Horowitz described it as "a roaring anthem of turbo-charged riff rock." A truly epic song in my opinion, even if you're not a car fan. Source: aolradioblog.com, wikipedia.org, Youtube Post published on Rpmgo.com |
BMW Explains The Driver’s Seat Posted: 10 Apr 2011 05:00 AM PDT Click here to view the embedded video. This video explains the extensive development necessary every time a new seat is created. For the German automaker, the seat is considered a part of the car's suspension and is designed in order to bring the driver into a perfect position. Extensive testing is conducted, on various driving conditions, and the final decision is made after rigorous analysis on BMW's test track.
