Volvo Recalls 350 Units Of Its XC90 Due To Steering Issues Posted: 24 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT Volvo will be recalling 350 units of its 2010-2011MY XC90 model due to the reason that the power-steering fluid may leak, which might lead to a sudden loss of power steering, according to NHTSA. The Swedish automaker said that this defect may result in a slow leakage, which will generate noise and decrease the power steering assistance gradually. The company's dealers will have to replace the oil pipes on the power steering rack for those 350 XC90 units. This recall will commence at the end of this month and owners can contact the company at (800) 458-1552. Volvo stated that they will continue to investigate how this happened and will later on submit a more comprehensive report in regards of this matter. Audi Q5 Hybrid Fuel Cell Revealed Posted: 24 May 2011 12:57 AM PDT Audi brought to this year's Michelin Challenge Bibendum an experimental Q5 Hybrid Fuel Cell model. With this green SUV, the German automaker is studying the potential of mixing a hybrid powertrain with the hydrogen fuel cell technology for improving the driving range in comparison to a regular hydrogen-powered car that uses hydrogen fuel cells to generate the necessary electricity. The car has two high-pressure cylinders in which the hydrogen is stored at a pressure rate of 10,153 psi (700 bar). The engineers used a polymer electrolyte membrane for manufacturing the fuel cell, which generates 131 hp (133 PS / 98 kW). The two electric motors have been installed close to the car's wheels and they offer a combined output of 121 hp (122 PS / 90 kW) and a peak torque of 309.78 lb.-ft (420 Nm). For storing energy, the Audi Q5 HFC has a 1.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. No words about the fuel economy or the driving range of the car as the model is still in its early stages of development but the project looks very promising and we hope that someday Audi will roll out a production version based on this concept. Aston Martin Confirms 2-3 Lagonda Models Posted: 23 May 2011 10:00 AM PDT From a recent interview given to Car Magazine by Aston Martin's CEO Ulrich Bez, we learn that the British automaker is working on "two or three" new Lagonda models: a sporty crossover, a high-end luxury sedan and an Allroad-type crossover. He added that the Lagonda brand cannot survive "as a one-model brand" and for this reason they'll launch several cars. The sporty crossover will ride on 21-inch wheels and will feature a low-riding chassis, while the Audi Allroad-type model will be aimed at the odd Range Rover customers. As far as the luxury sedan is concerned, it will combine the traditional luxury of the brand along with a sophisticated drivetrain and advanced packaging. We shouldn't be surprised if the model will be powered by a hybrid powertrain coming from Mercedes-Benz. Source: carmagazine.co.uk Post published on Rpmgo.com |
BMW Might Build A Plant In Russia Posted: 23 May 2011 07:00 AM PDT According to the CEO Norbert Reithofer, the German automaker BMW is thinking about the possibility to build a plant in Russia as part of the company's ongoing global expansion into the emerging markets. This new plant might be built in one of the country's industrial clusters, in either St. Petersburg or Kaluga, where there are already other car plants from various manufacturers. If this factory will exist, BMW will make a lot of models there, like the X1, X5 and X6 crossovers, along with the 3-, 5- and 7-Series sedans. At the moment, the cars are assembled under license in Kaliningrad by Avtotor, a local partner of the company. Source: Inside Line | Photo: leftlanenews.com Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Talk to One another Future Cars Posted: 23 May 2011 06:05 AM PDT Roads without accidents and super-safe cars are everyone's dream. This is why companies from all types of industries do their best to increase driving security and to achieve this goal. One of the possible solutions could be the future 2014 cars which will be able to talk to one another and warn drivers about all types of traffic related problems, from accidents that just happened to information about on the way ambulances. All this is part of NXP's vision, a semiconductor company that is already working on this technology with Cohda Wireless of Australia. The concept is called C2X platform and is already on field trials. By this, a gigantic car-to-car network and car-to-infrastructure (like traffic lights or street lamps) network will be created, which means that information will quickly pass around, from driver to driver. This future platform uses the IEEE802.11p wireless standard, especially created for automotive applications to communicate with each other and also with intelligent traffic infrastructure. In addition to all this, the system is so smart, that it even “sees” around corners, recognizes traffic blocks and risks before even the driver could see them. It works like a warning system that allows drivers to adjust speed and optimize driving, and we totally support this initiative. What do you think about this technology?
