| E3 brings F1 2011 first impressions and screenshots Posted: 06 Jun 2011 04:36 AM PDT E3 conference gave the opportunity for the F1 2011 team to release some of the game’s specs. Stephen Hood, chief game designer, talked about some of the carrer mode enhancements, about the increased number of venues and about the improvements made to the multiplayer mode. F1 2011 will feature a multiplayer split-screen mode designed for gamers which like face-to-face racing. The main improvement in this section is the full 24-car grid option which is made available starting this year. This comes after several complains made by F1 2010 players who said that the half grid severly minimized the gaming experience. The carrer mode of F1 2011 will feature more complexe and realistic details like press releases post-race containing headlines of actions made by the player during the events and also a co-op carrer mode which will allow two players to act as teammates during a full F1 season. F1 2011 comes out September 23rd on PC, Xbox 360 and Play Station 3. Post published on Rpmgo.com |

| Tesla Motors Raises $210 Million For Model X SUV Posted: 05 Jun 2011 11:30 PM PDT Good news for those of you looking forward to seeing Tesla's next year electric Model X sport utility vehicle. The company has managed to raise more than $200 million dollars this week in a follow-on public offering. Most of the money will be used for the development of the company's third EV, the Model X, which will be out sometime next year. Tesla Motors priced its offering of the 5.3 million shares @ 28.76$ / share, which is considerably more than last year's $19 / share. At the moment there aren't many details available about the upcoming Model X, but one thing that we know is that it will feature the same powertrain as the soon-to-be-released Model S. The company mentioned that they will become profitable when the Model S hits the market in 2012, but until then they needed the additional equity in order to ramp up the production for the green SUV. | Maserati Quattroporte By MR Car Design Posted: 05 Jun 2011 10:00 PM PDT Earlier this week, the tuning specialists over at MR Car Design revealed their latest upgrade program for the Maserati Quattroporte. This new package consists of a healthy power boost, new wheels and a new exhaust system. They've managed to increase the total output figure to 430 hp, up from the standard 400 hp by remapping the ECU. That annoying top speed limiter that you'll find in the standard version has been removed. The car also got a custom-made dynamic pressure-optimized stainless steel exhaust system that sports four 76mm tailpipes. The Quattroporte now rides on 9×22-inch Vossen wheels, wrapped around in 245/30R22 rubber for the front wheels and 295/25R22 for the ones in the back. | Posted: 05 Jun 2011 09:30 PM PDT I always considered the 1-Series to be the ugliest car BMW has ever made and the new generation is even uglier than before. The German automaker will launch the car this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and although it looks more substantial than the car that it will be replacing, that front fascia which looks like the 5-Series GT (another design flop) was a very bad idea. There are good things about it though, like the fact that it offers a roomier cabin thanks to the fact that the wheelbase now measures 105.9 inches (2.69 meters). In addition, the luggage capacity has also been raised by an additional 7 cubic feet (200 liters). Clients (not many I'm sure) will have to pick from the long list of engines which will be available upon launch. For example, the 1.6-liter gasoline engine will be offered in three output configurations: 134 hp (136 PS / 100 kW), 168 hp (170 PS / 100 kW) and probably a little bit later, the 247 hp (250 PS / 184 kW) unit. If you are a diesel man, the 2012 BMW 1-Series will get a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, capable of outputting 114 hp (116 PS / 85 kW), 141 hp (143 PS / 105 kW) or 181 hp (184 PS / 135 kW). All these engines will be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic transmission. All of the 1-Series variants will benefit from BMW's start/stop system and the regenerative brakes technology as part of the company's EfficientDynamics strategy. This means that the car will be able to return from 40.6 to 54.7 mpg (4.3 to 5.8 liters / 100 km). Source: WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
| Skoda Superb Combi Laurin & Klement Revealed Posted: 05 Jun 2011 09:00 PM PDT Skoda and Laurin & Klement have teamed up again, this time for dressing up the Superb Combi model and they'll unveil it at this year's Autosalon Brno. It was created in order to be one of the most luxurious cars from Skoda, featuring chrome exterior accents and a new set of bespoke 18-inch alloy rims. The interior benefits from Magnetic Brown leather upholstery, stainless steel door sills and a piano black trim. Customers will be able to choose from one of the three engines available: two gasolines and one diesel. The first gas engine will be the 2.0 TSI unit that produces 197 hp (200 PS / 147 kW), along with a more powerful V6 3.6 FSI that generates 256 hp (260 PS / 191 kW). If you prefer diesels, you can opt for the 2.0 TDI CR DPF unit that churns out 168 hp (170 PS / 125 kW). Source: Skoda via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
| Cars We Hate Part 11 – Tatra T603 Posted: 05 Jun 2011 05:44 AM PDT We bet most of you haven't heard about the Tatra T603 but now you'll probably remember it for a long time. What can we say about the design of this car? It's simply hideous, probably one of the ugliest cars of the 60s. The first variant of the 603 had three headlamps! The one in the middle was connected to the steering which made it possible to turn the lamp with the steering. At first, these headlights were located under a single piece of glass and later on they've used three-piece glass. The car featured a big cargo compartment under the hood, under which they've put the spare wheel. The Tatra T603 was allocated only to the senior members of the industrial and political establishments and approximately one third of the production was exported to the central and eastern European countries that were allied to Czechoslovakia, along with China and Cuba. They've made this car for 20 years, producing 20,422 units, mostly by hand. Some say that Fidel Castro, former Cuban president has one fitted with an air conditioning system. PS: This dashboard doesn't look that bad though… Source: Wikipedia Post published on Rpmgo.com |
