OnStar is the first company to introduce an automotive mobile app in China
SHANGHAI – Today at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, Shanghai OnStar announced the debut of the popular OnStar Mobile App for all drivers of OnStar-equipped vehicles in China. The app is the first automotive mobile app available in China and is similar to the U.S. and Canadian versions. It will allow OnStar subscribers in China access to all of the functions of a traditional key fob – remote start, horn and lights and door lock/unlock – securely from their smart phones. “Giving our customers control of their vehicles with smart phone application technology is a key advantage of OnStar’s in-vehicle connectivity,” said Jon Hyde, general manager of Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co., Ltd, "This technology empowers drivers to have control over important vehicle information from anywhere they happen to be." In addition, the app will provide subscribers with key diagnostic information, including fuel level and range, remaining oil life, current and recommended tire pressure and lifetime average kilometers per liter. The diagnostic information is current as of the last vehicle start, giving OnStar subscribers an up-to-date status report of their vehicle when they need it. "OnStar is continuously raising the bar in telematics and safety leadership as well as applying the newest and best technology for our customers in China," said Hyde. "It is our vision to be the single most-admired telematics player with a clear focus on providing subscribers safety, security and peace-of-mind services." OnStar mobile app services will be available to all OnStar-equipped vehicles, including existing subscribers as well as new subscribers. | New York Auto Show – U.S.-spec 2012 Hyundai Accent Posted: 27 Apr 2011 04:30 PM PDT  U.S.-spec 2012 Hyundai Accent The price of fuel is on an ascendant trend so the sub-compact segment is starting to become more and more attractive to car buyers. One of the newest offerings is the North American version of the Hyundai Accent which was revealed last week at the 2011 New York Auto Show.  U.S.-spec 2012 Hyundai Accent It will be offered in both 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback body styles, and promises to deliver 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway, the best in its class, with a highway-only driving range of up to 456 miles, according the South Korean car manufacturer.  U.S.-spec 2012 Hyundai Accent Wearing the company's "Fluidic Sculpture" design outfit, the new generation of the Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter Gamma engine that has direct-injection technology and produces 138 hp and 123 lb.-ft of torque. This power unit can be mated to either a 6-speed automatic gearbox or manual transmissions.  U.S.-spec 2012 Hyundai Accent Both of the aforementioned body styles will feature a 101.2 inch wheelbase, making it 2.8 inches longer in comparison to the outgoing model. The overall length of the 4-door version has increased to 172 inches, while the 5-door model measures 162 inches in length. The 2011MY Accent measures 66.9 inches in width, while the new one is 0.2 inches bigger. | New York Auto Show – Ford Mustang Shelby GTS Posted: 27 Apr 2011 03:30 PM PDT  Ford Mustang Shelby GTS The Ford Mustang Shelby GTS has been unveiled last week at the New York Auto Show and is targeted as the more affordable version of the iconic model, designed for those that do not have enough money to buy the GT500 or the GT350. Considered the successor of the 2007-2008 GT model, this one will be available with a choice of two power units, a V6 and a V8. The first one is a V6 3.7-liter engine while the latter is a more powerful V8 5.0-liter. No word about the power and torque output yet, but they should be out pretty soon. This GTS package for the Shelby Mustang starts from only $9,995 and you get a lot of goodies from Ford Racing, Shelby, Borla and Baer. Here are a couple of the components included as standard in the base package: Borla exhaust system; Ford Racing handling pack: new springs, front strut tower brace and tuned stabilizer bars; Shelby / Baer brakes; exclusive Shelby front fascias; Shelby LeMans stripes and side stripes, along with dozens of badges. For additional money, you could also get a supercharger for the V6/V8 engine; adjustable control arms; 6-piston Shelby/Baer brakes; Watts link rear suspension and others as well. Here is something that you don't hear every day or better said, something that you hope to avoid: a gas station in a town near Stuttgart, Germany raised the price for super gasoline to a whopping 9.99 Euros / liter on Easter Monday. Why? In their attempt to prevent customers from buying the fuel. Sounds ridiculous, we know. The German news site "The Local" said that the Esso gas station raised the price to 9.99 Euros / liter due to the reason that it was running low on the fuel amid a nationwide supply shortage. The funny part is that although there were plenty of signs posted at the pumps, there were several clients that fueled their cars, not knowing the increased price. Once they've reached the cash register, they had a very unpleasant surprise. One of these clients had to pay 209.98 Euros for the 21 liters of super gasoline that he put in his BMW. Another one had to pay just less than 200 Euros for 20 liters of fuel. These angry customers called the local police and refused to pay the bills. However, they were told to pay the gas because otherwise, that Esso station would have made a complaint. Eventually, they've paid for the gas, hoping to sort out some sort of agreement with Esso later on. | Posted: 27 Apr 2011 02:30 PM PDT  Opel Astra GTC Probably one of my favorite cars that will be revealed this year is the Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC. The automaker has released the first two pictures with the sexy coupe, along with a short clip. Unfortunately, we can't tell you about the specifications, but it looks that the design has been inspired from the GTC Paris Concept which was unveiled in 2010. The bad news is that the production model doesn't have that aggressive front fascia, those LED fog lights and the dual exhaust system.  Opel Astra GTC Reports say that it will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged power unit that cranks out 286 hp (290 PS / 213 kW), mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that sends all of those ponies to the front wheel through a limited slip differential. The Opel/Vauxhall GTC will also sport an advanced FlexRide suspension that boosts a compound crank rear axle and a Watt's link. Click here to view the embedded video. | Rennsport Muller Porsche Panamera 4S Posted: 27 Apr 2011 02:00 PM PDT  Rennsport Muller Porsche Panamera 4S Another tuning company has tried to make the Porsche Panamera look decent, but once again, failed. Still looking like a fat 911 and stretched, the Panamera 4S by Rennsport Muller packs more muscles as the power output has been raised from the standard 394 hp (400 PS / 294 kW) to 419 hp (425 PS / 313 kW) by remapping the ECU.  Rennsport Muller Porsche Panamera 4S For improving the ride, they car's adaptive air suspension has been lowered by 40 mm and they've also fitted the 4S with Schmidt Revolution 22-inch rims, wrapped around 265/30R22 rubber in the front and 305/25R255 tires out in the back.  Rennsport Muller Porsche Panamera 4S Inside the cabin, German tuner Rennsport Muller has fitted the Panamera with a leather finish, while the exhaust system benefits from a sound optimization.

They've fitted the gorgeous Audi R8 V10 with a new front splitter, an updated grille and a very aggressive rear diffuser. There aren't many changes inside the cabin, but they do have fitted the car with lightweight sports seats and more carbon fiber trim.  RENM Audi R8 V10 RMS Spyder The car's V10 5.2-liter engine got a new carbon fiber air intake, along with a remapped ECU and a high performance exhaust system. After these modifications, the engine's output has been raised from the standard 518 hp (525 PS / 386 kW) and 391 lb.-ft (530 Nm) to 591 hp (600 PS / 441 kW) and 431 lb.-ft (585 Nm) of torque. | Shanghai Auto Show – Luxgen Neora Posted: 27 Apr 2011 01:00 PM PDT  Luxgen Neora The Taiwanese automaker Luxgen has released a couple of days ago at the Shanghai Auto Show its Neora concept. They've borrowed some styling cues from the Hyundai Sonata and the Chevrolet Volt when they've designed the car, which sports a panoramic glass sunroof, cool-looking LED headlights and gently sweeping character lines.  Luxgen Neora Inside, we find leather upholstery, an elegant wood trim, as well as a 9-inch infotainment system and a head-up display.  Luxgen Neora The car is powered by a 48 kWh lithium-ion battery that sends power to a 241 hp (245 PS / 180 kW) electric motor which turns the Neora's front wheels. The concept has a curb weight of 3,527 lb (1,600 kg) and is capable of doing the 0-60 mph in a respectable 6.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). | Posted: 27 Apr 2011 12:34 PM PDT  Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h I never liked the idea of a tuned Lexus and this latest package developed by Fox Marketing is another reason why cars like these should stay stock. This one-off CT200h was unveiled during the New York Auto Show and it is a bespoke model that packs a wide bodykit with modified fascias, updated side skirts and an awful-looking very aggressive rear diffuser. Those 20-inch alloy rims are not that bad, along with the Cinnamon paint job and the tinted headlights, but that diffuser ruins the car.  Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h Nothing special going on inside the cabin, where we find Yonaka Ronin racing seats, illuminated "Lexus" logos in the door panels and an aluminum trim.  Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h The car's 1.8-liter engine has been fitted with an Eaton supercharger, a high-performance intercooler and a Climax Racing intake manifold. No performance figures have been revealed but the Japanese automaker says that the power plant should deliver about 300 hp (304 PS / 224 kW).
