2012 Nissan Versa Goes Official Posted: 21 Apr 2011 04:56 AM PDT The Japanese automaker Nissan has released this week its new 2012 Versa model, which will have a very affordable base price of just $10,990. The looks of this small sedan are a little bit odd, which is probably due to the fact that it's based on the Micra's V-platform architecture. Moving on to the inside, nothing special going on there as we find a dashboard that looks just about the same as the one in the supermini Micra, except for some mild updates to the switchgear and the layout of the instrument panel. It has the same wheelbase (102.4 inches) and width (66.7 inches) as the outgoing model, but it is now 1.2 inches lower (at 59.6 inches) in height and 0.6 inches shorter (at 175.4 inches). Nissan says that the car now offers more legroom, similar to the one that you would normally find in a mid/large size sedan, like the BMW 5-Series, Lexus LS460 and the Mercedes E-Class. The guys over at Nissan sure are ambitious if they can compare their budget-minded Versa with premium cars like the 5-Series or the Merc. Under that rather unattractive hood we find the 2nd gen 4-cylinder 1.6-liter engine that pumps out 109 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 107 lb.-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm. This power unit can be mated to either a next-gen Xtronic CVT gearbox or for a 5-speed manual, which is available only for the 1.6 S model. According to Nissan, the 2012 Versa can do about 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway, with a combined cycle of 33 mpg, when using the CVT transmission, and 27/36/30 with the manual gearbox. The 2012 Nissan Versa will hit the dealerships later on this summer at a base price of $10,990 (or about 7,700 Euros at the current exchange rates). Bugatti Veyron Gets Two New Flavors Posted: 21 Apr 2011 01:00 AM PDT Bugatti revealed in Shanghai this week two new editions of its epic Veyron model. The first one is in fact a one-off Grand Sport that comes with a matte white exterior look with blue carbon fiber accents. The latter color pattern can be found inside the cabin as it was used on just about everything. As a reminder, the Veyron Grand Sport is powered by a huge W16 quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter engine that produces a whopping 987 hp (1,001 PS / 736 kW) and 922 lb.-ft (1,250 Nm) of torque. With so much power available, the GS can hit an electronically limited top speed of 253 mph (407 km/h) and 224 mph (360 km/h) with the roof off. The other special edition, the Super Sport, features an all carbon fiber look that looks simply amazing. The interior cabin is airy and light, sporting carbon fiber trim and two-tone leather upholstery. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport still is the fastest supercar in the world, managing to hit a limited top speed of 258 mph (415 km/h), thanks to its 1,183 hp (1,200 PS / 882 kW) engine that has a peak torque of 1,106 lb.-ft (1,500 Nm). Opel Corsa OPC Nurburgring Edition Unleashed Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:00 PM PDT The first details about the Corsa OPC Nurburgring Edition have been revealed this week by Opel. The top-spec model has been designed in order to offer a "rare blend of raw power, performance and passion", and comes with a front lip spoiler, exclusive 18-inch aluminum wheel, along with two unique exterior colors: Henna red and Grasshopper green. On the inside we find the Recaro sport seats, piano black trim, white accent stitching and "Nurburgring" sill plates. Things get a little bit more interesting under the bonnet where we find the same 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, but its ECU has been revised and Opel's engineers have installed a new stainless steel sport exhaust system. Thanks to these modifications, the power unit outputs 207 hp (210 PS / 154 kW) and 206 lb.-ft (280 Nm), a 17 hp / 10 lb.-ft increase over the standard OPC model. With this extra oomph available, the car sprints to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h). As far as the handling is concerned, the German engineers have fitted the car with a retuned suspension that packs Bilstein springs and dampers, a Brembo braking system, a limited-slip differential, along with a recalibrated traction control system. Opel said that they are going to make "around 500 units", and prices in Germany start from 27,650 Euros, including VAT. Source: Opel via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Based on the Sport version, it features a desert theme with a body-color hardtop, along with fender flares, lizard decals on the bonnet and rear, and the Sahara model's side steps. It will be available in Black, Bright White and Sahara Tan hues. As far as the inside is concerned, this special edition features dark saddle leather with a lizard logo that has been embossed on the seats, along with a front-passenger grab handle, door-handle inserts, steering-wheel spokes, bespoke driftwood surrounds on the air vents, as well as overhead grab handles and Mopar tread pattern slush mats. Nissan Compact Sport Concept Revealed Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:00 PM PDT This week at the Shanghai Motor Show in China, Nissan unveiled the Compact Sport Concept, a 3-door hatchback prototype that was developed by the company's global design center in Japan and at its Beijing design studio in China. Conceived "for young customers in emerging countries", we don't have many information about it, but it appears to be a more masculine version of the Micra, featuring a couple of elements from the standard supermini, like the headlights and the two-part grilles. With its heavily-sculpted bodywork, massive bumpers and those bulged wheel arches, this compact looks promising, but we don't know if there is going to be a production version based on this concept. If there is going to be one, our guess is that it will be a 3-door version of the Micra, taking into consideration that Nissan's supermini is available at the moment only in a 5-door configuration. The Compact Sport Concept is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 190 hp. This 4-cylinder power unit is mated to a CVT gearbox that features a 6-speed manual shift mode. Inside, it looks similar to the production version of the Micra and adds a couple of sporty details, like the distinct instrument panel and gauges, along with the two-tone cloth seats and the flat-bottomed steering wheel. Posted: 20 Apr 2011 07:00 PM PDT There hasn't been any news these days about tuning programs so it's good that we have one to talk about. The engineers over at MR Car Design have decided to offer more muscle to the Ford Focus RS, turning it into a serious rival for the BMW 1-Series M and the Audi RS3. By remapping the car's ECU, installing a new in-house exhaust and downpipe, along with a K&N sport air filter and a 200-cell catalytic converter, they've managed to raise the power output to 355 hp (360 PS / 265 kW), up from the standard 301 hp (305 PS / 225 kW). The car also went on a diet and thanks to these modifications; it can now sprint to 60 mph in only 5.9 seconds. In addition, they've also fitted the car with a Variant 1 KW coilover suspension.
