Chevrolet Teases 2012 Malibu

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 03:13 AM PDT

2012 Chevrolet Malibu

On April 19th at the Shanghai Motor Show, Chevrolet will unveil the 2012 Malibu and General Motors decided to promote their new model through this teaser from where we can deduct that the car will have LED tail lamps inspired from the Camaro. The new model will also make an appearance at the New York Auto Show, which starts on April 20th.

A couple of weeks ago we uploaded here on rpmGO a batch of spy shots with the new Malibu, and we also know that it will ride on GM's Epsilon II platform that was also used for the Buick Regal. General Motors stated that the next-gen Malibu is going to be wider than the current one. We will probably see a more global design if we take into consideration that the car is going to be sold in almost 100 countries from 6 continents.

Under the bonnet we will probably see GM's 2.4-liter Ecotec (naturally aspirated), along with a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Some say that GM is also working on a hybrid version of the 2012 Malibu.

More information will be revealed when the car gets its official debut. Stay tuned.

Jaguar Reveals New Info & Pictures With The XF Facelift

Jaguar XF Facelift

The British automaker Jaguar has released today a couple of images of their XF facelift model. Under that camouflage we can spot the new design of the headlights and the profile of the hood. The car will be available with an all-new 2.2-liter diesel power unit that produces 187 hp (190 PS) and 332 lb.-ft of torque. With this new engine, the facelift version of the XF will be able to do 43 mpg in the combined cycle and a 149 g/km CO2 emissions level.

This new 16-valve 4-cylinder engine has a water-cooled turbocharger with low-friction pistons, a new crankshaft and new injectors. The car will benefit from the stop/start system, new electronic systems and a new oil pan. The aforementioned stop/start system improves fuel efficiency by up to 7%. With this new power unit, the engineers used active engine mounts in order to reduce vibration, along with other measures meant to reduce the noise coming from the 2.2-liter.

This engine is going to be mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox, allowing the Jaguar XF to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 8.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed 140 mph.

Tesla Is Suing Top Gear

First I would like to say that I like Top Gear a lot and the Tesla Roadster is one of my favorite cars at the moment so I can't really choose sides. Anyway, it seems that Tesla Motors is suing BBC and Top Gear for rigging the test/review (or whatever you'd like to call it) on the Lotus Elise-based Roadster.

The automaker filled a writ at the High Court as they believe that the Top Gear's test is distorting reality and is biased. Their biggest complaint is with the part when the car apparently runs out of electricity and is being left in the garage to fill up its battery. I remember seeing that episode and Clarkson said that the Tesla Roadster is "not working in the real world", a statement that is not true at all if you ask me.

More than that, Tesla Motors believes that the events in that episode were faked (quite a shock, isn't it?) and that the Roadster's brakes were not really broken. The funny thing is that rumors say that the company's UK director was aware of the rigged review, before the episode was aired.

China Gets BMW M3 Matte Edition

BMW M3 Matte Edition

China is becoming a very profitable target for almost all car manufacturers and to get the most out of it, BMW for example has decided to launch an exclusive M3 edition for this market. Dubbed M3 Matte Edition, this bimmer is available in gray or black, with black chrome accents, red brake calipers, and sits on 19-inch rims. Moving inside the cabin we find the carbon fiber trim and the black leather seats with red contrasting stitching.

BMW M3 Matte Edition

The engine under the hood is the same one you'll find in the standard M3, which is a V8 4.0-liter that delivers 414 hp (420 PS / 309 kW) and 295 lb.-ft (400 Nm) of torque. The power unit is mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed transmission, allowing the M3 to do the 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, before reaching a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Porsche Announces Panamera Turbo S

Porsche Panamera Turbo S

It was only yesterday when we talked about a possible April launch of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S and now 24 hours later, the German automaker has decided to reveal the most powerful version of its ugliest car in the current lineup. The Turbo S version will benefit from the same V8 4.8-liter bi-turbo engine, but with more oomph as it will deliver 542 hp (550 PS / 405 kW) and 590 lb.-ft (800 Nm) of torque with overboost, and 553 lb.-ft (750 Nm) without it. The standard version offers 493 hp (500 PS / 368 kW) and 516 lb.-ft (700 Nm).

Porsche Panamera Turbo S

With these extra muscles under the hood, the car will be able to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h). This additional power was possible thanks to the addition of new titanium-aluminum turbines for the car's bi-turbo system, along with an optimized engine management.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S

They also were quite attentive at the Panamera's fuel consumption and according to the car manufacturer; it will eat up only 11.3 liters / 100 km, for the model fitted with the specially-designed 19-inch rims covered by low-resistance all-season tires, courtesy of Michelin. They also offer 20-inch wheels.

The car will come as standard with Porsche's Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), along with the Sport Chrono Package Turbo.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S

Deliveries of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S begin this June at a base price of 167,067 Euros in Germany (including VAT).

Now, an important question: which one is uglier, the Panamera or the Cayenne?

Spy Shots – Audi RS4 Avant (Mule)

Audi RS4 Avant (Mule)

It seems that WCF's photographers are having a busy week. First we saw the BMW 6-Series with the M-Sport Package and now the RS4 Avant mule, which is based on an S4 Avant but features a couple of RS4-like modifications to spice things up a little bit.

Audi RS4 Avant (Mule)

As you can see from these pictures, this mule is riding a little bit higher in comparison to the regular S4 thanks to its bigger RS rims from the RS5 model. In the front you'll notice the new design of the bumper which now accommodates the more generous air intakes. Out in the back it has the same exhaust as the one on the S4.

Audi RS4 Avant (Mule)

We don't know which engine the RS4 Avant will get, but the guys over at WCF think that it is going to be a tuned-down version of the V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo that has been rumored for a while, a power unit developed for the forthcoming RS6 and RS7 models. For these two, it will output about 592 hp (600 PS / 441 kW). On the RS4 it will probably be dialed down to about 493 hp (500 PS / 367 kW).

Audi RS4 Avant (Mule)

No information about when the RS4 Avant will be launched, but taking into consideration that the RS6 will be out sometime next year, we wouldn't be surprised if it will bring along its little brother.

BMW 6-Series Coupe Spied Wearing The M-Sport Package

BMW 6-Series Coupe M-Sport Package

As you most likely know, the new BMW 6-Series Coupe has been revealed a couple of weeks ago and now we have the first spy shots of the model fitted with the M-Sport Package. Thanks to our esteemed colleges from WCF we can see the car wearing just a little bit of camouflage on its redesigned front and rear bumpers, and the skirts.

BMW 6-Series Coupe M-Sport Package

Unfortunately there aren't going to be any power upgrades for this stylish coupe as it will only feature several M-badged options. However, thanks to its big V8 4.4-liter engine that cranks out 402 hp (407 PS / 300 kW) and 442 lb.-ft (600 Nm) of torque, maybe a power boost isn't really necessary. Thanks to this engine, the 2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe can get you from start to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Audi A5 e-tron Quattro Revealed

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 10:13 AM PDT

Audi A5 e-tron Quattro

The car you see in these pictures is the new Audi A5 e-tron Quattro that comes with a 2.0-liter TFSI power unit that develops 208 hp (211 PS / 155 kW), along with a pair of electric motors, each being mounted on the front and rear axle.

Audi A5 e-tron Quattro

The electric motor installed at the front axle adds another 33 kW (45 PS) to the front wheels, while the back ones get another 60 kW (81 PS). The latter is engaged only when the acceleration needs it or when the car's sensors detect a loss of rear traction. The juice for these two electric motors is provided by a 9.4 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Audi A5 e-tron Quattro

On electric mode, the A5 e-tron can be driven for up to 25 miles (40 km) and is capable of hitting a top speed of 62 mph (100 km/h). The car's overall fuel economy is rated at an astonishing 2.7 liters / 100 km and it needs 5.9 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint, which is 0.6 quicker than the regular A5 with the 2.0-liter TFSI engine. Top speed is rated at 142 mph (228 km/h).

Audi A5 e-tron Quattro

The bad news is that this is just only a prototype and we don't know when and if it will hit the streets. This one features a lot of aluminum and carbon fiber parts to counteract the weight gain of all that electrical equipment in order to keep the curb weight just about the same as the conventional-powered model: 3,527 lbs (1,600 kg).
