Cyclist sues for unsafe road which led to accident Posted: 14 Sep 2009 04:59 AM PDT Let’s face it, there are some roads in practically any country where it isn’t even safe to drive a car, let alone ride a bike. But cyclist Peter Beileiter is taking the fight straight to the Roads and Traffic Authority in Australia as an accident left him blind and brain-damaged. He is now seeking millions of dollars in damages because, as he claims, the road wasn’t safe. The cyclist, who was allegedly knocked off his bike by a hit-and-run driver in the Southern Cross Drive from Sydney, in February 2001, claims that the road had no conditions for cyclists, like a dedicated lane. The lawyers representing him also say that the RTA, when it enhanced the road conditions in 1998-1999 failed to take into account the suggestion from the city board of continuing the cycle lane which was featured in the northern part of the road, and even narrowed that one down, to the point where it is extremely dangerous to ride a bike around there. They say that it was the RTA’s duty to warn cyclists and prevent them from going down south on the road, as it was dangerous. The team of attorneys also revealed that it is “more than probable” that he was struck in the back by a car and wasn’t wearing a helmet at that time, meaning that damages are also demanded from a “nominal defendant. The RTA, of course, declined to comment on the matter and will issue a statement when the Supreme Court will pass its ruling on the case. First pics of Toyota iQ Sports and iQ Collection appear, set to be revealed at Frankfurt Posted: 14 Sep 2009 04:37 AM PDT Japanese car maker Toyota is really attacking the small city car market, as not only does it have the Yaris and the Aygo already on it, but the iQ is also getting a lot of attention lately. This will only increase during this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show which will see the car manufacturer unveil two special editions of the small car, the iQ Sports and the iQ Collection. The new version of the small city-mobile are definitely catered to two different audiences, as the iQ Sports, practically a re-badged Scion iQ Concept which was revealed during the Detroit Motor Show, is definitely more aggressive, thanks to its bodykit and the custom trapezoidal exhaust, whereas the Collection edition is more refined. The second version will offer a bit more class, thanks to its panoramic glass roof and the custom interior that features pearl leather upholstery, so that you can go around the city in style. No technical details have been revealed just yet, so we’ll have to wait until the show starts in Frankfurt. Mansory presents pink Bentley Vitesse Rose at Frankfurt Posted: 14 Sep 2009 03:12 AM PDT Pink isn’t something you normally see on many cars except in the case of women drivers. But the tuning crew at Mansory thought it would be a perfect color for the Bentley Continental GT Speed, and will be revealing the Bentley Vitesse Rose at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. After you recover from the shock of seeing a pink Bentley, you might also observe that besides the pink, the German team from Mansory has outfitted the Continental GT with a carbon fiber bodykit, in sharp contrast with the pink and new 21-inch allow rims that provide better handling than the normal ones. In order to truly hear that monster 6-liter V12 engine, the team also put in a new, custom-built, sports exhaust manifold. On the inside, the stark contrasts keep on coming, as the two-tone upholstery features both light and strong purple as the colors. The leather, hand processed, will also be in a strong contrast with the sporty pedals, made of aluminum blended with carbon fiber, and the racing wheel which still contains the stock airbag of the car. Overall, if you want a truly custom Bentley Continental GT Speed, as only three of these tuning packages will be made, it will cost you €269,000. More pics will appear straight from the Frankfurt floor later this week. Read More: “Mansory presents pink Bentley Vitesse Rose at Frankfurt” Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Jaguar XJ Limo-Green, a concept hybrid coming to Frankfurt Posted: 14 Sep 2009 12:19 AM PDT Jaguar has been known for quite a lot of things, most of them in regards to fast cars, exclusive limousines and, in some cases, being the target of eco-conscious drivers everywhere. Now, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the British company owned by the Indian corporation Tata, will unveil the XJ Limo-Green, an electric-gasoline hybrid capable of averaging 5 litres/100 km, or 47 mpg. Bear in mind this is only a concept for the company, which revealed that until the costs of building hybrid drivetrains will shrink, an investment into making a production-ready model won’t be made, through the voice of the director of the research and development department, Anthony Harper. He revealed that the technology isn’t that really far ahead, and Jaguar can’t offer the same quality it does with normal cars just yet. The electric engine of the concept will be capable of offering 197 HP, with 400 Nm of torque, and an autonomy of 48 km, or about 30 miles. It will be coupled with a 1.2 liter gasoline engine borrowed from Lotus, which will charge the batteries with electricity, thus making the XJ Limo-Green capable of going for 966 km, or 600 miles. The average fuel spent will be 5 liters/100 km and emissions will be around 120 g of CO2/km. The maximum speed with be only 180 km/h or 112 mph. The concept will enter Jaguar’s testing stages next year, with production ready models possibly arriving in 2012, although nothing is certain. More news will arrive straight from Frankfurt as soon as we get them Read More: “Jaguar XJ Limo-Green, a concept hybrid coming to Frankfurt” Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Koenigsegg to bring CCXR Trevita to Frankfurt, only three will be made Posted: 13 Sep 2009 11:57 PM PDT High end supercar maker Koenigsegg is at it again, as it has announced that it will create a truly exclusive edition of its CCXR, dubbed Trevita. All fine and dandy, considering as this is normal practice for many supercar manufacturers, but considering it will have a special finish and only three cars will be made, means that exclusivity will be at its peak. The name comes from the Italian expression “tre volte bianco”, which means three times white. This is due to the new Diamond Weave material which will finish all of the exterior of the supercar, which is an expensive derivate of carbon fiber. This new material will be of course finished in a diamond color, which will require even more attention and hard work from the Koenigsegg staff. Don’t forget that only three of them will be made, so chances of meeting one at the traffic light will be very slim. More news will be made available as the exclusive edition will be presented in Frankfurt this week. Barrichello wins Italian Formula 1 race, Brawn GP achieves double Posted: 13 Sep 2009 11:43 PM PDT Brazilian Rubens Barrichello driving for Brawn GP achieved first place at the Italian Gran Prix, held yesterday in Monza. The driver and his teammate, Jenson Button, opted for a cunning strategy with just one pit stop which paid off in the end. The British driver achieved second place whilst the podium was completed by Ferrari’s own Kimi Raikkonen after Lewis Hamilton spun off with only a few hundred meters before the finishing line. This race allowed Brawn GP to take some serious steps towards winning both the team championship and Button towards wining the pilots championship. After a few disappointing races, it seems that the rookie team might have a stunning end of the season. One of the most shocking events was the Hamilton’s crash, as although he started in pole position, the fact that he needed two pit stops made him drop into third place in the last laps. Struggling to get Button which was in front of him, he lost control of the wheel and spun out with a few hundred meters before the checkered flag. Raikkonen benefitted from this and gained third place, before Team India’s Adrian Sutil. Fernando Alonso, Hekki Kovalainen, Nick Heidfeld and Sebastian Vettel completed the list of drivers who earned points in the Italian GP. It must also be mentioned that Giancarlo Fisichela, at his first race for Ferrari, ended up in ninth place. As it stands, Button leads the driver competition with 80 points and Rubens Barrichello closely follows him with 66. Sebastien Vettel holds the third place with 54, followed by Mark Webber with 51.5. In the teams’ competition, Brawn GP has extended its lead, now owning 146 points, while Red Bull only has 105.5 points. Force India still holds the number three spot with 70 points, followed in the distance by McLaren, with 47. Overall, it was a pretty tight race filled with unforeseen results. Look forward to the Singapore GP, taking place on the 27th of September. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
